QUOTE
Rock history was made today as Metallica seized triumph from the jaws of disaster, after drummer Lars Ulrich was hospitalised with a mystery ailment, on the day of their headline performance at the second day of the Download Festival. Read more...

Whereas lesser bands would fold in the face of such adversity, Metallica were not going to let this little setback spoil the party.

A frantic backstage call for arms (and sticks) rallied an impressive contingent of troops from other artists on today's line-up, all ready and willing to do their bit for the Tallica, and a secret spur-of-the-moment rehearsal/audition was held in the band's dressing room to decide a set-list!

The crowd were not informed of the crisis unfolding backstage, and patience was beginning to wear thin after the band had failed to appear, more than an hour after their due time, evoking the festive chant of "You're ****!".

At around 10pm, the 'Ecstacy of Gold' intro music kicked in, and the boos became frenzied cheers. These soon faded, as the three emerging band members walked solemnly to the front of the stage. Singer James Hetfield was quick to get to the point.

"We would like to apologise for being so late to start, but only three of us made it down here to Donington today. Unfortunately our drummer, Lars, is in hospital. We don't know what's wrong, but we wish him all the best. Some friends of ours are gonna help us out, so we're going to make rock history tonight!"

First in the hot seat was Slayer's Dave Lombardo, much to the crowd's obvious delight, as the band kicked off with an apprehensive 'Battery', and just about pulled it off, with a lot of nodding from Hetfield and bassist Rob Trujillo. Next up was Slipknot's Joey Jordison, and then something magical happened. Surging into 'Whiplash', the remaining band members were unable to contain their smiles as it quickly became apparent that the small, demure figure behind the kit was not so much their salvation, as their hero of the day.

As his confidence grew, Jodison began to add his own flavour, improvising thundering fills over 'Creep and Death' and 'Seek and Destroy', much to the glee of beaming guitarist Kirk Hammett. After a brief and not-entirely-successful attempt by drum tech Flemming to cover on a ropey 'Fade to Black', plans to bring on Life of Agony's Sal Abruscato and bring back Lombardo and Flemming were swiftly aborted. Metallica had found their drummer for the night!

After what will long be remembered as a truly legendary performance, a clearly shell-shocked Jordison staggered off-stage to an emotional reunion with his unmasked Slipknot bandmates, proclaiming "You just made rock history, dude!" He just did.

I think that's amazing. I would like to hear some slipknot+metallica remixes! happy.gif . I wish Lars the best of luck.

Here's a pic:

Lars is a dollar-grubbing douchebag. I pretty much lost all respect for him for his cocky-ass high-almighty behavior, suing everyone for the whole Napster debacle and other stuff. Brings a bad image to the band.

And Metallica's last album sucked so much it isn't funny. Sure ain't hell isn't Ride The Lighting and ...And Justice For All.

See, all of you Slipknot haters.. THEY CAN COME IN HANDY AT SOME POINT!
Arg! There are too many Slipknot haters out there.

I LOVE Slipknot.
Joey's my favorite.. he's so effing hot with AND without his mask.
That's hilarious in the pic, though.. he's masked, and they're not, heh.

That is awesome.
Dude.. I'm so proud of Slipknot right now. _smile.gif

Slipknot is just a mainstream metal band which has the musical talent of a teenage garage band, all their full lengths exhibit nothing but annoying screaming and bad guitar riffs. Metallica however has just sucked since the black album _smile.gif. To me a remix of Metallica and Slipknot could be enough to make me want to hide under a rock for a couple years.

With the exception of Joey and the singer (Cory? I think...), Slipknot seems to lack any real technical skill. The guitar work is horrible, and the bass follows it. The large hand drums are hardly even used (all I see is the clown dude standing on top of them banging his head), however I do like the vocals and drumming.

Is that good enough for you? Or need I go into yet further detail?

You don't need to get into further detail, because that's your opinion.. I obviously disagree, but I'm not going to get into it.

I personally think Slipknot is full of talent and that people do NOT give them enough credit. Go read some of their lyrics, and you'll see.
As for the instrumental part, they're very talented. How exactly is the guitar work horrible, hmm?

But whatever. I'm not saying you can't have your own opinion.. I just don't think Slipknot gets even half the credit that they deserve.

Yes, the singer's name IS Corey.

What happened to people liking real metal bands? Sodom, Anorexia Nervosa, Devil Driver, Children of Bodom, Anal c**t, Burzum, Nuclear Assault, Jag Panzer, Marduk, Vader, Nokturnal Mortum, Nocturnus, Dark Tranquillity, Immortal, Exodus, Sabbat, Kataklysm. I mean the good stuff, metal isnt supposed to be played on the radio, its not natural. I agree some members of Slipknot could be amazing if they were placed in a good band. But Slipknot as a whole is worthless, I think Slipknot could become a good metal band if they got rid of some of there pointless positions. I mean no band need 9 members... unless its a philharmonic.
