reform: hire competent, certified, degree-holding teachers. put together a more useful, productive program.

and attendance has to be mandatory for it to work. If it's not, the ones who play sports are gonna be the ones taking it bc itll be fun. the obese and fat kids wont take it bc theyre obese and fat, and it kind of defeats the purpose of having gym in the first place.

Meh.. the teachers seem alright here..

And it shouldnt be mandatory.. because why should the ones that play sport also have to take a class? It should be mandatory IF you dont play sports..

I agree on elementary and high school.. but middle school.. if they're realli getting a lot of exercise training/playing sports and stuff, I still dont see why regular PE class is necessary

because in middle school most kids dont lift weights, and most of the coaches arent exactly known for their strength and coniditoning programs. Also, alot of athletes at that level do what is necessary physical wise for their sport during the season and thats it. Middle school is a good transition age where you can show the kid the benefits of a good PE program, and teach him health habits for life. I know thats what elementary is for, but this is the age where they do start to gain some interest in working out. Also, unless they ARE an athlete, at that age they prolly dont do any regimented strength training. Finally, you are just going to further the notion that athletes are better than the regular kids and cause some uneasiness by doing that.

Hm.. I'l agree with you this point

I notice that you keep emphasizing strength..

That is not what I'm saying at all.. I'm saying that athletes already get their exercise.. and do not need a physical education program.. I mean.. in middle school, we hardly did anything.. we covered a few units of sports and ran daily.. that was about it.. athletes do more in preparation for their sport.. and its not like they're completelyl excluded from PE, they're just excluded for the duration of their athletic season

Banned, because if a student goes into his next subject, let say P.E., and after that subject, student's that haven't took P.E. yet, might smell him/her as stinky or whatsoever. And besides, it's not really eduaction, it's playing or something.

... no offense, but that's one of the dumbest arguments I've seen.. smelling stinky?

come on.. so would you rather have an America full of obese kids?

And its education because you learn about sports.. and you get exercise

What if there were no sports you're interested in? And besides.. sports take a lot more time and dedication than regular PE

well if you have no sport to be interested in isnt it better to take a sport that you dont dislike that much rather than take PE and have to take part in several sports which you may end up despising?

well sports do take up more time but i dont mean for a team or anything they could just let you take a certain sport kind of for fun so that people might actually be motivated

I suppose if its not for a team or competition or anything.. purely on interest.. then its alright..

But the problem is.. in elementary or middle school or something, they generally dont have the teachers or the time to have specific sports (considering the vast amount of sports in existence, which ones should be available and which shouldnt?)

Oh and if you dislike sports.. would you not prefer to just take part in various sports for a short amount of time in PE, rather than have to play a sport for a whole season/year or something?

well thats true it may cause a problem but the kids could vote i guess i dont really know, or they could just have the "common" sports

well this really depends on the sports they offer. for example im not exactly crazy about sports but if the PE course consisted of several sports, and i hated about half of them, then im going to be pretty pissed during PE for half the year. but, if the school offered a course that i dont really hate all that much, i would be much happier taking that sport the whole year.

but then again theres seasons arent there? wouldnt really be able to play summer sports in the winter

heck no they shouldn't cancel it. USA already has Mcdonalds and we are known for our obsesity... now little children are going to be stuffing themselves with Fast food and won't have a way to burn it off. KEEEEP P.E.!

Oh yeah.. at my school if you do a sport for like 10 hours a week or more you don't have to do P.e. because they know you are getting your exercise.. but for all the people that don't..P.E. SAVES LIVES!!

I dont know.. I'm still thinking that it wouldnt be such a good idea.. because think about it.. how many kids are in the school.. and trying to offer sports classes for them all..

And what of the kids that WANT PE?

EDIT://
