How many of y'all are active in sports, recreational or not? How many of y'all play it super organized / just do pick-up games? How many of y'all get super competitive and become assholes that call every rule violation when playing looooool?
Used to play a lot of basketball but since I moved back home it's become exclusively tackle football (no pads) & soccer, every weekend, 3 hours each sport. Soooo much fun I can't believe I'd stopped playing when I moved to my dorm. Then you get to walk away with bruises / scrapes and feel good about that shit. When I play soccer there's usually 5-6 people who actually play and 15 or so who are terrible, but it's still a lot of fun because it's a bunch of people just enjoying the game having fun out there; that and a lot of them have gotten a lot better. |

yeah mostly just pick up. i go with my friend and 80% of the time our 1-on-1 games end with punching each other or throwing the other on the ground. usually out of competition/frustration. we fight over the rules because he doesn't know as much about basketball but he acts like he does. i don't like how he fouls like a little bitch so i will elbow him in the face and from that point on it's less about making baskets and more about who is gonna hit the other hardest.
i'm picky. when it comes to pick up games, i don't wanna follow the rules 100% because i don't think it's necessary and i'm ok with leaving some out to make it more fun/make it work better with less people. at the same time i don't like when people disregard rules that are important to the entire concept of the game. |

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh I know what you mean i.e. double dribble, traveling, handballs in soccer, etc.
When we play, no one else really takes control of the game so I just call out the rules at the start and since I told people what to do, they listen. We play really loosely, only calling offsides if it's a huge / blatant advantage to the offsides player, not this offsides by 2 feet bull shit. On the throw-ins, most people don't know how to do that so we just disregard that. We call out of bounds, fouls, handballs, and blatant things. Even the goal kicks are really loose, I would toss the ball to the spot I take the kick from but my team would interpret that as a short pass, go take the ball, and play. I'm thinking "wtf I was going to take that kick." |

Don't play organized sports now, just pickup games and stuff thrown together with friends.
I hate it when people call stupid shit cause it messes up the flow of the game and then people start trying to go tit for tat. One time there was almost a fight cause someone called carrying on some dudes crossover lol. I generally don't call anything unless it's way obvious, and in that case you usually don't have to say anything though some people try to play it off like nothing happened. lmao one time we were playing soccer in a hockey rink so a lot of the rules had to go out the window, especially out of bounds. Still had a bunch of offsides calls though. |

So it was more like indoor. Indoor has a separate set of rules than outdoor, it's a bit more odd imo.

I've never played indoor soccer, so I'm not sure. All I know was it was really weird having people dribble behind the goal and play balls off the sideboards and plexiglass. And the goals were tiny so only like 3 goals were scored all day.

oh well yeah behind is weird but in indoor you get really used to using the wall to your advantage. they don't have yellow cards they have blue cards. they have a similar penalty system where a player sits out a bit. you can't slide. there are nets at certain heights and you can't kick the ball high because there's a net at the top so the punts have to be low punts or it has to be thrown. there are other rules about direct/indirect kicks that i'm not the most familiar with

Indoor soccer f*cking sucks.
I play mostly soccer and football as of now, but most of the people I play football with want to be pussies and do something called two-hand wrap. I don't know if you know what that it is, but after the first "wrap", it gets awkward. I used to be a huge basketball addict (for lack of a better word) when I was younger, though. Oh, I remember admiring McGrady because his jersey number was 1 which to me was like, "Holy f*cking shit, this guy must be good. He's number one." But yeah, no one else has really been into the whole basketball deal for a while near where I live. And I have to admit, sometimes, I'm intimated to play with a bunch of African-Americans because compared to me and maybe one Caucasian guy, they're f*cking mon-stars. Like these guys: ![]() And yeah, it's usually just pick-up games. Having a super organized type of game is too much of a hassle. As far as calls go, we usually call the basic calls that most of you already mentioned. Oh, and if skateboarding counts as a sport, then that too. But, I don't think that really has any rules. ![]() edit: For angry African-American man: ![]() |
