I recently purchased a dress on sale because I’ve been searching for a cute black dress for parties/special/formal occasions since I'm usually in pants... Most dresses I try on are either too expensive, too long or its perfect but my bust isn’t big enough for it....I probably bought this dress is besides the fact that it was on sale & it was padded!
![]() It looked fine when I tried it on in the fitting room but when I tried it at home, the dress made me look bigger than I really am? Does this happen to anybody else or is it just me? I have a hunch it might be because I've gained weight & need to lose it which is why the dress is so unflattering on me?? Here are some photos I quickly took. http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/7176/dress2.jpg http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/4830/dress3.jpg If the above photos aren't that clear on ur comp, mine is slightly similar to the blue dress below in terms of its length, way its pleated etc. http://fashionforme.files.wordpress.com/20...short-dress.jpg Besides teaming it up with a belt and/or losing a bit of weight.... I'm just wondering if there is any other way to make the dress a bit more flattering on me? |

LOL, I have a dress in that blue color that's pleated like that too. The straps are thicker than yours though.
Mmmm, the belt is the only thing that comes to mind. There is only so much you can do to a dress.. |

In your opinion, a dress of that structure (flowy dress starting beneath the bust line) & style (pleated), would it only be the most flattering on a thin person?

No, I don't think so. Obviously it is not going to look good on a blob of fat, but if you're proportional, it should look fine. Actually, these dresses are supposed to flatter the curvy type.

If it suits you, you can also put a big ol' brooch on the belt/middle section. Not in the middle, though, to the side. It'll draw attention towards waistline, AKA your curves. ;]

My bf jokes that I have a small head..... which makes my body look a bit larger....& it seems to be true because my upper half looks horrible in strapless dresses.....
I think leaving my hair down or wearing a cute jacket with it would solve the problem for winter.... I'm trying to think of other ways to wear this dress without looking fatter than I really am during hot summer nights/days.... |

have it belted (with silver belt), and statement necklaces, simple earrings and bracelets.

Thanks for the tips girls~
![]() Unfortunately, since not much could be done about the dress.. No matter what I did, in the end it still made me look a tad chunkier than I am.... I ended up returning it today... 2 days before their refund policy expires!! ![]() Browsed in stores & I ended up purchasing a knee-length bandage dress in black I found in the clearance racks (was cheaper than the pleated dress I returned so was pretty happy~)... I tried it on & it didn't look too bad on me.... since I thought the bandage dress were for people with long legs and/or very curvy figures & can flaunt it~ Hehe! What are your takes on the bandage dress? |

Maybe its just me, but I find that the bandage dress is 1 of those dresses that suit a lot of body shapes.
The only downside of the bandage dress is probably the tummy area? I am actually quite behind on fashion as I've always been the person who wears anything depending on how much effort I'm actually bothered to put in. ![]() After you mentioned Herve Ledger, I looked it up & found that it seems to be a recent thing, that also reminded me that Blake Lively wore 1 too & it looked really nice. ![]() |

I hate them. I think they make a lot of girls almost look pregnant. They are just a little bit better than those baby doll type shirts.

I hate them. I think they make a lot of girls almost look pregnant. They are just a little bit better than those baby doll type shirts. Hrmm.... it is more of the stomach area that is a bit of a dilemma for wearing the bandage dress. My 1 isn't that skin tight, its black & I've been exercising these days (I've finally decided to get off my ass to exercise!!) which is a good thing bcoz I won't look as pregnant compared to if I wore the colourful ones... I can imagine that I'd look really horrible & weird if I was put in those colourful/light coloured ones you've seen on celebs.... So glad I returned that babydoll-like dress~ ![]() Is there even a type of dress that would look good on anybody? Lol? |
