tryyy.... safe mode with internet? and download tune-up utilitys (idk if you can though) Bad advice. Make sure your computer has good ventilation. 3 inches all around, no books on top, or the back or sides covered. And get that dust out. Then try again. Never use tune up utilities. Also, post in the desktops thread, and tell us what kind of pc you have. I want to know. |

One problem. I can't login on my computer. And I do not see the specs on the computer itself.

I would suggest a linux live cd, but...
Bios is set to turn off a computer, at a certain temp. It's probably just to hot. Give it an hour to cool down, and keep it in a cool room and try again. |

Give it an hour to cool down, and keep it in a cool room and try again. i let it off the whole day. then i turned it on again and it's still having the problem. Beenly, are you using a laptop or no? no. i'm running on xp, btw. I know that, but all computers have stickers somewhere on them with a model number and usually on the monitor area of a laptop the model name and number is on the top right, and if it's a tower, then it should be on the back or side. i will try to do that. i'll post the specs soon on my itouch. anything in particular you want me to look for? |

Did you open the case and clean it out, as suggested by jcp? Restarting could simply be a problem of overheating. If that didn't/doesn't work, did you try booting from your XP CD to see if you could repair the installation? You could also boot into safe mode if possible, and try to run a virus scan.

Maccabee mang! If you can't get anything to work, you should make an ubuntu live cd and back up your files, or scan for viruses with clamshell. If you can boot into ubuntu it is most likely a HDD failure, or something to do with windows. |

It's not Windows. It's a hardware problem.
OP: Your computer (specifically your CPU) is overheating. |

Thanks. My computer works now. I didn't clean it, but I let it cooled off for 3 straight days. And thanks to my house being cold as hell, I'm glad that worked. Just in case though, where could I buy these cleaning utilities? (Besides online.)

At most hardware stores.
If you don't get the dust out of it it's going to keep over heating. |

Walgreens, Walmart, anywhere. It's just compressed air, that you need.
I would suggest doing it outside on concrete. Don't touch anything, just take off the side panel, place it on your driveway standing up, get down on your knees and blow... Then put that side panel back on. |
