I going to say no because i am a woman and i don't want to be drafted. Women aren't as strong as men. Many women would like to believe that men and women are equal but men are stronger. I have no problem admitting that

Perhaps as a last resort though

No one should be drafted. It's illegal, it's un-American, it will WEAKEN the army (Which is why the Department of Defense opposes it), and it will ruin our foreign reputation, which is already perilous.

The Democratic Congressmen who support the draft because too many minorities are getting killed should be forced to live in a communist country for a while.

The Republican Congressmen who support the draft because of military strength should go to Iraq themselves.

equal rights
equal fights

they want equal rights? they should be same odds of being drafted as men

Then do you seek equality in for both men and women?

Then give us higher pay! Give us rights in the household and we'll fight your wars with you. Pfft, as if we haven't been doing that already.

And you think men DO want to be drafted?

If someone wanted to be drafted, they would volunteer.

Haha well cuz its Minda.. he's practically memorized the Constitution and has already debated this topic in a previous thread

Exactly.. very good point there.. I mean, if say, we were invaded, then yes, I'd fight to defend our homeland.. but if we invade some country for trivial or political reasons or something.. heck no.. I'm not going to play servant to the politicians

QUOTE
but what if we run out of men?

Yes, in a very unrealistic scenario where most of the men were killed.. women then should be drafted.. last ditch effort and the like

QUOTE
and y men instead of women?

a. because generally, men are physically stronger than women.. better fighters
b. *cough* sexism

i didnt ask him to debated in here

i think either no1 should be drafted, or both sexes should be drafted
if u put a woman in boot camp long enough she'll get tough
i dunt wanna be drafted, i'd hate it...but i dont think men shuld have to just b/c they are men...i wuldnt want my husbad drafted b/c hes a man

and its not totally unrealistic to say we run out of men...if there was another world war the chances of it happening culd be high...remember that the soldiers can be too old...they cant be disabled...etc...if ur a piolet in the war...there r certain viruses u can never have had...u cant have poor eyesight, etc.theres so many qualifiers, eventually ur gonna have to give a lil or we will run out of people

Wow.. that's the first time I've heard a girl say that.. at least in this thread.. i think..

Soldiers too old... its not like we're drafting retired veterans..
Well.. I'm not completely sure on this.. but I believe most ppl drafted dont serve the air force.. the training would take far too long.. and.. if there were another world war.. I doubt there'd be a world to fight over afterwards.. Einstein once said something along the lines of "I know not what WWIII will be fought with, but I can be sure that WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones"

well...its true..i dont wanna be drafted...but y men instead of me? i mean this coutry is based on equality and sexism is illegal...but dont we constently practice it by having only males registar at 18 in case there is a need to have drafts

it was just an example, i was just pointing out that we wuld have more ppl if they allowed both men and women...and women have something to offer...for example(it may sound sexist but its a statistic) men usually are tougher, women usually have more sense

More sense? That's something commanders need, the army isnt going to promote drafted soldiers easily.. and besides.. sexism is so rich in the military, men wouldnt like women commanders too much..

I was serious when I said this was iffy.

Imagine your 30 year old mother being drafted. She's not exactly fit, but she can outrun the lady next door by a hair.

Doesn't that sound a little weird to anyone else?

I saw Starship Troopers earlier. First of all, I think that it sheds alot of insight into the draft and military society in general.

A society with the draft: Like the movie. They send 1,000,000 tiny little footsoldiers with guns taht are like weaker than M-16s against giant bugs. Lots of them die, and the government becomes tyrannical.

A society without the draft: Like America. If we had to fight giant bugs, and we had the technology that they had in the movie, but we only had 100,000 soldiers, we would put them all in the space ships and bomb the hell out of the bug planet from orbit -- many less casualties.

This is true--- in EVERY twentieth century war fought between a primarily volunteer and a primarily drafted army, the volunteer army has proven more reliable, taken fewer casualties, and achieved more efficient results than the drafted army.

In every country where the number of drafted soldiers made up a majority of the army, the only exception being Great Britain in WWI, the government doing the drafting was either overthrown by the soldiers it drafted, overthrown by a foreign power, or severly weakened to the point of near-collapse.

Where do you get this stuff? ohmy.gif

And of course, because drafted soldiers wouldnt have much enthusiasm as volunteers.. and thus, wouldnt fight as well

There was a dorm movie night, and Starship Troopers was the movie, and I thought it was the quintessential idiotic military society.
