Hmm, maybe if you were to move the navigation and "about me" above the log in area it wouldn't look so crowded. Also, the style of the "about me" is very different than the rest of the layout. It looks awkward.
Otherwise it looks good. |

I think getting rid of the "About the theme." area will help make it feel way more open.

the nav at the top for twitter and stuff isn't good to me. it's a main focal point for links that aren't the main links of the website. your actual navigation is little and disappears in comparison to those. the real navigation (portfolio, about me, contact, ect) is a lot more relevant and important. besides that, i don't like the rounded boxes around the links either. everything else on your layout is clean squared corners.
like others said, it's very busy, esp to be making a statement about it like this QUOTE About the theme. It’s my second theme for Drupal. Very minimalistic and abstract. it's not very minimalistic i don't think. |

I'm just not digging the contrast. Black on white isn't good. Instead do light grey on dark grey. And I think it should be center.
Its a little odd. I dont see why you have two sidebars side by side. and the floating footer copyright thing really throws me off. And the nav looks really good but the links shouldnt have a background-color when you hover. Instead it should be a rollover or something. But I am liking the basic color theme. |

Thank you (: I moved the sidebar to the right. I'll somehow change the links at the top (ones in the buttons) into a better place, and possible leave that area for more designing.
Floating footer = me being lazy and not putting it at the bottom. Thanks all :D I'll keep trying to fix it. Oh, yes i know its crowded. I don't know why, I LIKE the crowdedness. Call me strange. :] |

wait... You didn't make this. What do you mean i didn't make this? I am using Drupal the content management system. In my opinion its like Joomla, which is more business-like mixed with Wordpress, which is more blog-based. This is Drupal's default layout: http://www.opensourcecms.com/demo/1/195/Drupal Now how did i NOT make it? Yeah I like it more without the about the theme section (: Thank you for pointing it out! Also fixed typo(; |

^ I'm sure his topic is just trying to state it's his first shot at designing something. I wouldn't go into too much detail about it. :P Yeah thats what I meant. So for future reference, a whole entire website = either your own CMS or no CMS at all? And I think I've received enough comments (: I'll handle it on my own now. Thanks Createblog! You can close this thread now. |

You can account for the "crowdedness" by three things that you can fix pretty easily:
1. Increase the margins and padding. Make it so that your text does not go up against the divs or table elements that you have so that it gives your content more room to "breathe". This is what contributes the most to its condensed feel. Give your box elements 10px - 15px margins and paddding and you should see a dramatic improvement. 2. Increase font size and decrease the number of fonts used. Right now you have two different fonts that are being used: a serif and a sans-serif. Stick to one. I would recommend you stick to the sans-serif since you're emulating a twitter/clean look that matches the graphics you are using. In addition, the kind of look you are going for focuses on the distinct trait of user-friendliness. In general, larger fonts are better for that purpose. Take a look at twitter yourself and you'll see what I mean. 3. Decrease contrast. Like Maccabee said, the contrast for your layout is too high. Set your gray to a much lighter gray (I use a HEX value of #666). That should make it much easier on the eyes. Try those three things out and they should provide a dramatic improvement. |

That was a really helpful comment! I think I'm going to keep the layout the way it is now and work on the content. I'll take ALL of these comments into consideration for the next layout. Thank CB!
I think I'll become more active on CB now that I have time to design :] |
