Layout: RaveGirl, Constructive criticism plz Rating Options

This Layout was rejected because (and i quote);

*the image is clearly not well designed ;it\'s just a \"neon glow\" effect on a picture of a girl changed to red. the structure of the layout isn\'t strong either.*

first off christy, thats your opinion and it doesnt speak 4 every 1 sum ppl like simple layouts and secondly the image is NOT just a girl and a neon glow it just so happens that i made a vector design put it on a blank canvas added a girl made the boxes and then turnd it into a neon glow. as far as structure wat makes it strong eh? dnt be so uptight and mean while rejecting layouts maybe u should tell them wat u think could help fix it.

Any way here it iz if u dont agree with christy n would like this layout let me know.

Imo the layout would look more organized if you made it into a single column layout and put the image of the girl either to the left or the right. I'm not a fan of any neon-type effects, either - tbh, it seems a bit... tacky :/ I don't know what other word to describe it is. I'm not trying to offend. I would also suggest using the same font for all the headers, and putting the "Rave Girl" text right above the single column (this is assuming you change it to one column).

Eh, I don't know what else to say. The buttons are pretty pixelized (you might want to up the quality on those). I think my biggest problem is that the layout doesn't flow very smoothly and the elements don't go well together (I don't mean the colours).

I agree with Christy. In MY OPINION it's a very poor layout.

Ah, young one. Much to learn, you do. It is just a picture of a girl with the red neon glow effect. There's nothing amazing about it to make you think of it in any other way. It is what it is. The fonts are terrible, the composition is horrible, as well as the structure. Did you ASK for pointers on how it could be fixed?

Honestly, the only person who is being uptight is you. So chill out, stop thinking that you know everything and just ASK for criticism and realize that you still have a crapload of stuff to learn.

First of all you need to learn criticism. Cristy is a design staff and im sure the other staff have the same reasons.

In my opinion the glow girl could have come out a lot better. To me its not really that neat and the image quality is a bit poor. Next time try saving the image as a PNG.

The fonts dont really match one another and to be honest are kinda tacky. Not to mention the ones around the box are not that great in quality.

Consistency is the key. And to me one big thing is matching. Some of the colour and looks dont really match well together on the layout. Also a layout is more than just a photo with boxes in front.

I don't think I have anything constructive to say about your layout. I don't think Christy was being harsh at all. Design Staff usually have quite a bit of stuff to go through so they will usually give you a reason why it's rejected (which is exactly what happened), but they don't have to tell you how to improve on it. That isn't their job when they go through the queue.

The layout is just ugly. Plain and simple. That glow effect is so old and not useful in design. If you want to use just a picture of a girl you should find a better way to incorporate it into your design. Get rid of the glow and find some nice stock images to use along with the image of the girl and then use the image as a header.

Also, having a look through the layouts that have already been accepted might give you a better idea of what CB's standards are.

Overall a Layout it like a drawing imo, If you draw it your going to get basically the same critiques (harsh or not)
Imo on a art point of view (instead of looking at it as JUST a layout cleanliness and pict) especially since a lot of people have given the layout opinion and i don't want to sound TOO repetitive

Overall the concept of the idea is nice, but
I can see a very very light shadow reflection on two of the boxes and on the "Rave Girl" sign- Looking at it, its so so so light that it looks like its not suppose to be there and its a mere poor cleanup to the layout.

The Girl and the swirls are also very messy, there are some things that are flowing out (like the right side) that looks like its not suppose to be there
If you MADE this neon effect, practice making it look sharper and more shape to the picture so people can read it easier,
Her bust and her left leg looks a tad UN-shaped and funny

The font should look somewhat related if you don't want them to be the same exact

Now hopefully i don't sound mean, but a lot of times for pictures you have to look at more *what others want to see and expect, just not your likes and expectations*

heres a link to my myspace im using this layout as of right now so u can see what it looks like.

I can see a very very light shadow reflection on two of the boxes and on the "Rave Girl" sign- Looking at it, its so so so light that it looks like its not suppose to be there.

They are sopose to be there and if u look at my profile you will see the rave girl isnt just a tittle *thing* its a flash banner thus yes it is sopose to have a slight mirror reflection.

Now, if you wanted a second opinion on why the layout was rejected, the correct thing to do is to reply to the rejection PM to Christy stating just that. And our staff is trained so one person can make a decision on a layout, they shouldn't need other opinions. For the most part, if one person would reject the layout for reasons they'll state. The other's will as well.

I agree with Christy's decision to reject your layout. A good layout will have more thought put into it.

It doesn't display properly in other more common (seriously, I used 1024x768 ten years ago, you should probably upgrade your monitor) resolutions because your image is too small.

Also f****t, can't do anything about the forum's censorship.

and thanks every 1 4 ur input on this layout i guess i should have informd you guys i had made this layout rather quickly 1 night *after a party* so it explains y its so poorly made i just wanted tips on how to improve it and also i know the res is low (1024x768) its just that my laptop that i use 4 all my design related stuff is *out of service* due to a broken power supply so im using my momz old a$$ laptop wich sux i should have mine up n running soon i hope n redeem myself with a layout im sure u guys/girls would love i jst need my comp back =/

^ Then why would you submit it to a site that is looking for quality designs and not just stuff that was quickly thrown together? There's nothing wrong with posting here in the Showcase forum with a "hey, I just threw this together do you guys think it has potential?" kind of thread, but saying that you submitted it and don't think it should've been rejected when you yourself say it's low quality baffles me.

You aren't going to make it anywhere in life if you freak out just from receiving criticism.

Although the girl is hot, it is a very basic and badly designed layout with a very 90's early 2000's look to it, and if I'll be honest it's pretty ghetto. We have a quality standard, and this just doesn't cut it.

And if this were real life (which you need to learn it isn't) I would be telling you that you should really apologize, to Christy right now.

LMAO, I'm sorry but what you just stated was funny. This is an image of a girl with a neon glow affect, just like Christy said but she said it less wordy. I don't think its the designer's job to tell you how to fix your layout, I think their job is to view layouts that are submitted, judge them, and come to a decision if they want a layout to be used by other users for createblog.com. You could always asked though..

For your skills since I think you are a beginner in design( which is no problem) I think you should view other layouts on Myspace. I think your divs where your user will put your information is not aligned well. It needs balance. I think the gradient colors you used for the title Ravengirl is not good. This really does show that you're amateur. You could add more style to the girl instead of one effect...

As for reading your last post....it seems you are trying to defend yourself from what other people said negative about your design. A well design takes time. That means if you want your design to look good you will put all your time and effort. Do you think someone who quickly put something together would accept your work. That's like presenting trash.

Don't take it too hard though because this is how designer's improved on their skills. You should take what a design professional said to you. They did the same things you did, they know what looks good from bad. Take their word, take your opinion, and improve.

I can circumvent it normally, but I don't have a mouse right now and I would have to click a bunch of shit to get it to work. I'm actually using a chorded keyboard right now, shit's painful.

I can't get rid of it, but I can get around it most of the time.
