You know, my finger is itching to close this freaking thread. Just GOOGLE it. Seriously. Research it out. Not everything is going to freaking come to you on a silver platter with garnishes decorating it.

Google something with avatar, refresh, and rotator, something like that. Was the first thing to pop up on Google. I really don't understand how you can't find it.

edit: yeah, google image rotator. There's a TON of scripts for things like this (if I'm interpreting things correctly).

Sometimes it's helpful to read (in this case re-read) the first page of a thread. You even posted on the first page after that response. _unsure.gif

Not to be a kill-joy, but why is it so wrong to just provide him an answer? A support forum that's saying "go to Google?" It's not like a rotating image is a safe-guarded secret...

Hm, I really don't know. I tried, but it was pointed out that the scripts I showed were not the exact thing he was looking to do. I guess it's the people's mentality here to have Joseph do this on his own. shrug.gif

eh, makes sense to me. I ask a lot of questions so people enjoy telling me to do it myself. I see nothing wrong with that. I guess I should start reading edits.

Very different. Thos things get asked every single day. And many people ask them so it is easy to google. This? Not so much.

I think that it's something that started in fun (Mike's teasing) and went awry a bit. I'm also not entirely sure whether or not it's simple or a little complex. I gave the "google" response because I don't know how to do it, but wanted to attempt to give Beenly (the topic starter) a direction in which to go from. I quoted myself because he (Joseph) had said that he didn't know what terms to search with.

It's not just Joseph that people say this to. I honestly don't think that people mind helping. It's when it appears that the individual isn't doing much to help himself that it gets a little frustrating. For example, had he attempted this and came back with something like "I tried this but it isn't working, here's the code I'm using..." people might have been more apt to assist.

That's just my take though.

I do think that the teasing has gone slightly overboard at this point though.

Joseph, the algorithm for doing this is pretty simple:
  1. Install a script handler at a URL like myawesomedomain.com/avatar.png. Note that that's actually a script, not a real image, even though it has a .png extension.
  2. The script talks to a database or has a hard-coded list of image files.
  3. One such image is randomly selected.
  4. The image is fetched from the file system and returned.
  5. Client displays said image.

So all i need is the script then. Because I made a .htaccess file that turns .php into .png, so I can link to josephbcohen.com/avatar/avatar.png but I need the script that tells it to look into josephbcohen.com/avatar/1.png, josephbcohen.com/avatar/2.png, etc. etc.
