I just started working on a new project yesterday, a site that compiles the best web site designs, logos, everything. This is what I have so far...it's incomplete, but I'm looking for feedback on the good, the bad and the ugly. Nothing on it works right now; it's just my first draft of the design. I also haven't checked it in any browser but FF 3.0, so I'm not exactly sure how positioning will turn out.

It looks fantastic. I love the rollovers on the top links....they look really cool if you go over all of them really fast (easily amused).

Looks great, but it seems like it would take too much effort to maintain. You know, getting permission to use copyrighted works on your web site?

Yeah, I made some changes to the CSS and never changed the HTML of the logo gallery to match it yet. I've just been going through making some tweaks to make everything load faster.

It's actually not using the copyrighted works, only linking to them. If there's a site that looks great, all I do is take a screen shot of it and link to that site. For logos, I'll probably make so only the creators can upload a logo (like logopond.com).

edit: Speaking of faster loading, I'm using gzip to deliver everything. When I check the headers of the jQuery file and my style sheet, they're both reporting compression, but YSlow (FireBug add-on) still yells at me and says I need to compress everything. Is it a YSlow bug, or am I doing something wrong?

It's still copyright infringement. Displaying an image of their work on your website would still be something you have to get permission to do.

Not to start anything, but displaying a screenshot of a website and linking to that website is not copyright infringement. Infringing on copyrights is just that: a matter of theft of copyrighted works, violation of rights, making derivative works or reproductions. Linking to a website is not. If it were, Google is violating copyright laws.

I left a comment, and I left my URL, however, the site did not accept it? Idk, usually if you leave a URL, it's hyperlinked to your name, however, it wasn't here. Bug?

Love it. And its bookmarked because that is something extremely useful. And if you dont mind im gonna study your source code.

The only problem I have is that, you say we and us. But you are the only one running the n site. Everyone does that and i hate it. But i understand why you do it. but i would avoid it.

It gives the appeal that you're not a kid designing websites in his bedroom. It makes everything seem a bit more professional. If you put up any kind of front saying that you have a team of professionals. I do believe Gregg has a partner though.

I agree completely. I hate it when people do that, too. It annoys me so much >.< In my opinion, it makes them look stupid. _unsure.gif

I disagree.

On which point? You think if someone had a choice of a desiger, they'd pic the highly reputable team of professionals, or the kid that says he's designed websites for years. (both with a nice portfolios).
