QUOTE(Facepunch) "Common sense" is the word we give to common past experiences and taught information we expect others and ourselves to have. It is a body of knowledge we refer back to in order to face new problems. However, common sense has its limitations. Common sense is only reliable as long as it is frequently checked against reality. When reality does not agree with common sense, common sense is changed and updated to better fit reality. Unfortunately, common sense can be abused and stray further and further from reality than we would like it to. In far too many cases, the cycle of checking "common sense" against "reality" has been broken, and turned into a cycle of "common sense" reinforcing "common sense". People with the same misinformed view are reinforcing other similarly misinformed views allowing flawed perspectives to spread faster and more effectively than more accurate ones. While this kind of abused common sense has always existed, its impact has recently been made far more obvious as a side effect of advancing information and communications technology. Perhaps the some of the best examples of the abuse of common sense can be found in the vast majority of opinions found on the Internet. The Internet has allowed for the abuse of common sense to occur at a scale never before possible. The ease of communication between people has made checking ones own opinion against the opinions of others far easier and convenient than checking them against more solid connections to reality. Again, with people with misinformed perspectives reinforcing the perspectives of others who are similarly misinformed, except now the cycle takes place at a much more rapid rate. It's an invisible and recursive game of telephone played on an unprecedented scale that has extended itself far beyond the media. Such is one of the unfortunate side effect of technology advancing more quickly than people. It is the result of people gaining access to new forms of information faster than they learn how to interpret and use them. Even worse is that the increased rate at which the cycle occurs fuels the arrogance behind the opinions in question, often making misinformed opinions seem more solid than those closer to reality. Or perhaps simpler explanation: I'm talking about how common sense can become skewed because people check it against other people's common sense rather than checking it against reality. Because of the convenience of the Internet, people would rather check their opinions against the opinions of others rather than check them against sources closer to reality. This causes uninformed opinions to spread much easier than ones that are better informed. Eventually these mere opinions become common sense, becoming even more difficult to correct. I don't know how to make it any simpler with that without further crippling it, if you still can't understand it then I don't know what else I can do. tl;dr, opinions should be checked against reality, not by someone else's opinion. |

oh you care too much I'm talking about people like Tama. Whenever he hears about something even remotely wrong, or homosexual, he's all "LOL ILL STICK A SCIMITAR UP HIS ASS AND BEHEAD HIM." Where does he get the idea that actions like that are acceptable in modern society? It takes an idiot. |

yeah, but at the same time, trying to reason with him knowing its not going to change anything is pretty useless. whatever illmortal thinks, dumb as it is, is what he thinks, just let him speak, then clown on him after and life is fair after that

There are a lot of people around here who say something (especially in Debate) and then when someone else chimes in and opens the persons eyes then the person will back down and see it another way. Most of the time when the person replies saying that he or she understands what was brought up people will right away jump on the person and reply with insults.
Then there's people like Tama who say ridiculous things and you just hope that a newbie doesn't read what he writes and assumes that all of createblog is that way (but, honestly, if someone was like that the next forum can have 'em.) The OP isn't what's wrong with this forum, though. |

I don't know if any of y'all have caught on, but Tama has been known to troll, he's just way better at keeping the act consistent. This is what I have always figured. I think he just exaggerates what he believes in to troll. But we don't see him as a troll, just an over opinionated douche bag. ;D I'd be more worried about the adult who wants to hang out on a forum full of "little kids". lol |

Majority of people posting there aren't kids. Just sayin' I'd be more worried about the adult who wants to hang out on a forum full of "little kids". As you know.. and more than likely fully aware of, this site provides plenty of resources in regards to web development. This is primarily my reasoning for going to this site. I don't exactly see how nude images of women, in a near non-artistic way could ever fit the "criteria" of this site. But I'm not the administrator so this isn't my problem. And the sad part about it... I go to a bodybuilding forum full of horny men who talk about women like their just a sex object to get a nut off of, yet the rule clearly shows, "no pornographic material, including nude still shots". And they respect that guideline. And the forum typically has members of 12+ years old. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And who gives a flyin f*ck if it's VIP side of the forum, I'm sure there's kids here who are still in middle school that have VIP access whether you want to deny it or not. Use your brains, you're self incriminating yourselves on the internet, by the age of 18 you'll probably have the FEDs knockin on your door. Yet I'm the problem with society. Get f*cked by a squad of minotaurs. |

I'm just going to say this: The majority of the active posters in the VIP Lounge are adults, and they are accessing material that is easily found on the web. The images being posted in that topic are not private images. This is primarily a design site and nude photos can be artistic. People like you have fair warning of what the topic has inside of it. If you are offended by the material then simply do not click on the topic. It is only one topic. If the entire VIP Lounge was filled with misleading nudey topics then there would be cause for concern. Official Members and Official Designers are and should be aware of the rules and guidelines of the site (and the NSFW rule even has it's own little entry). And the sad part about it... I go to a bodybuilding forum full of horny men who talk about women like their just a sex object to get a nut off of, yet the rule clearly shows, "no pornographic material, including nude still shots". And they respect that guideline. That's cool that you talk to horned out bodybuilders, but this is a design site and I don't see a lot of people around here talking about "getting a nut off" or objectifying sex in every topic. If the members of Createblog acted like the members of the bodybuilding forum then we would probably have that same rule. But like I said, it's one topic, not a bunch of posts all over the forum. Now I'm done with this subject. |
