They say you should never put anything on the internet that can hurt you. I think I did a fairly good job not incriminating myself so far. However, when I searched my old username (which I still use for other things) on Google, all my cB posts (which aren't even under that name anymore) show as the most relevant hits. And I mean all of my posts.

It's pretty embarrassing when a friend googles my screen name and gets to read all the posts I wrote four or five years ago when I was in middle school and starting high school. It's even worse when a significant other does so.

Can anyone relate? Google your username and see what pops up.
Is there a way to disappear?

My current user name gets A LOT of (google) hits. My first username here (Zatanna) also gets many hits, since she's a fairly popular DC Comics character. Duchess of Dork (user name I used between the one I have now, and my first one) gets a few hits. I'm seeing more and more of that "name" now though. I knew I should have grabbed that f*cking domain. _dry.gif

Oh, to answer you're question. I'm not 100% convinced that an internet footprint is permanent. It's feasible though, especially with cached pages and what not. Perhaps the saying, "be careful what you say" has evolved into "be careful what you type."

My Current Username brings up a "taco bell or toxic hell" rant.

You'll find a whole lot of stuff on me but none of it is embarrassing, not to me anyway. I don't make a habit of posting embarrassing stuff under a certain username. Yeah they might find a few cB posts (actually there aren't many though), but I'm fine with that.

Who gives a shit?

If a company is stupid enough to believe everything they read on the internet, I wouldn't want to work for that company.

Good point and I completely agree.

These days, if there is anything incriminating about a US service member online, it can adversely affect that service member's discharge.

(no, I'm not talking about dicks)
