hong kong is definitely more modern, but they don't have many art galleries or exhibitions. i absolutely love hong kong, but rome has quite a bit of modern art. i mean, half the exhibitions in the vatican museum were of modern art. a little bizarre. but you know, do some research about what art is on display.
however, i feel that hong kong is safer though even if both cities are overrun by tourists, rome is more dangerous in terms of pickpockets and scammers. |

when i was in rome, some young guy hooked his cane (wtf, right?) around my little bag thing and tried to pull it off my shoulder. good thing my mom has a loud voice, she bitched that guy out until he ran away.
anyways, never been to hong kong and would really love to go. i went to venice for a music festival once and when it was over, went with my mom to tour rome, milan, and florence. italy's really nice and i'd love to go again. i just love that there is so much history there and you don't even need to go into an art gallery for the art (though you probably should if you decide to go). |

oh yeah
in rome, they got those people who go on motorbikes and steal your handbag (or whatever bag) and speed away. |

i was pretty safe this time in Rome. a lot of vendors approached me, but all you have to say is "no" and keep walking. just as long as you keep an eye on your stuff, it'll be fine.
