the devil wears prada - lauren weisberger

my brother makes fun of me about how that movie is a chick movie. i love it though _unsure.gif it makes me laugh a ton for some reason. so i'm going to read the book.

QUOTE(brooklyneast05 @ Mar 4 2009, 11:07 AM) *
yeah i've heard the book is way better so i'm looking forward to that since i liked the movie so much. a friend and i are always saying how we feel like watching the movie. it's just so f*cking funny to me. i felt this same way with legally blonde, i watched it like every other day for weeks when i had mono and would laugh hysterically. i guess that could have been cause i had a fever and was delirious though.

this will be a nice break from all the serious non fiction books i'm always reading.

seasonal0.gif likes what he likes

what are some things that you like that uncharacteristic or unexpected?

like for instance when people see me, a big black dude, i doubt that they are like oh yeah i bet that guy likes the devil wears prada, legally blonde, and the hills. what are some things about you like that are unexpected? or are you just one of those annoyingly boring people who only like shit that you're "supposed" to like? be honest mellow.gif

hrm, idk. i'm not really sure what i'm 'supposed' to like.

i guess most people are surprised when they learn that i'm really into buffy and vampire flicks. i'm also pretty fascinated with anything supernatural or anything sci-fi that has to do with human genetics and mutations.

not so much here, but people at school are usually surprised that i'm into graphics and design. i guess they see me as a bio/premed kid and label me as that and nothing else.

i'll have to think back on this.

Hmm, I like a lot of random stuff. I guess, because I'm this short little Asian girl who smiles a lot, what people would find random out of me is that I like V for Vendetta and Watchmen? Or is it weird that I absolutely adore musicals, and that I would sing along with Belle when I watch Beauty & The Beast? I don't know.

well, i have an unexpected dislike actually:

since i'm hispanic, people assume that i like spicy food. but i can only tolerate so much. i don't put hot sauce on ANY of my stuff like my aunt does. she has to put picante on almost everything.

^I'm the same way. Everyone in my family puts hot sauce on everything except me.

I'll have to think about this one too. I can't think of anything, atm.

I've recently discovered that I like the song, "Golddigger". I'm not anti rap or anti R&B, not at all. I was surprised that I would like that song so much. It cracks me up and the beat is awesome.

I was surprised to discover that I liked Gossip Girls. It's not my type of show. I fell upon it on accident, sort of and there was nothing else on. I couldn't take my eyes off of it.

Well, I personally was surprised to find out that I actually like coffee, after resisting it for a year years.

As far as other people go, I think people would be -- or are -- surprised to find out that I frequently watch -- and enjoy -- What Not to Wear.

I don't like how Stacy refers to breasts as "the girls".

me either. i don't like how stacy refers to a lot of things. also sometimes, or most times really, her criticism is really over the top and comes off as trying too hard. oh and another thing, i don't get why they throw ALL their clothes away and only buy 5 outfits to replace all of it. i don't believe they really get rid of all those clothes.

Yeah, me, neither. Plus, after they spend the $5000 they're given...then what? Sure, I could buy nice clothes for $5000, but once they got old, I'd never be able to afford to replace them anyway.

Speaking of, this girl I dated once joked that she should nominate me for the show. It's not that I'm a bad dresser, but I'm only 5'2", so my options seem kind of...limited.

The hair and makeup portion is fun to watch too, though. The same girl actually learned how to do all her makeup based on the show, and she does it quite well now, to say the least.

I f*cking love Legally Blonde. I think I could recite all the lines to the movie.

The book version of the Devil Wears Prada is NOT better, imo. When you finish reading the book you just want to slap Andy because she's such a stupid bitch. But in the movie I found myself really liking her and rooting for her. Plus it was a feel-good movie. PLUS Meryl Streep is just amazing as Miranda.

On the bright side, The Devil Wears Prada is probably considered to be a less generic chick lit novel (probably with the stupid ending), so it won't be too bad to get into it.

On What Not to Wear:
They donate the old clothing so they're not being completely wasteful. Also, the full amount of clothing they buy is never fully shown since it would just be too much stuff to show you. And you know that they can get a lot of clothing for $5000 because they shop at places like H&M too. Even if everything was $100, you could still get 50 items of clothing, which sounds like nothing, but they stress buying a few items of good quality that will go with each other, create endless outfits and last quite a while. Put this into perspective: you're dealing with people who own clothing that they've owned since they were 13. Surely they'll hold on to this new clothing for even longer.

I LOVE Clinton!!!!! If I was a dude I would dress like him.

Wow essay.

I surprised myself when I discovered that I really, really like Fleet Foxes.

Yeah, I do agree that the ending of the book sucked major ass compared to the movie... but I thought the book as a whole was better in how everything was just funnier imo. And Christian(?) sounded so absolutely drool-worthily hot in the book. But I guess that won't be a very big upside for JC. XD.gif

LOL aw.

Oh yeah, I listened to all my Eminem music yesterday and rapped along aloud since nobody else was home. It was embarrassingly fun.

Everyone is shocked when they find out that I love techno.

Everyone is even more surprised when they find out my favorite musical artist of all time is Katy Perry.
