I\'m usually generous with tips. Some places actually pay less than minimum wage because the servers are supposed to be making the difference back through tips.

But if the service sucks (like when some ham fisted f*ck face spilled the drinks all over us), it calls for the $1 tip.

Tough shit. Life ain't easy. You give me a shitty service, I'm not going to tip. And I understand Javonn's position. You expect someone to come serve you at some point. Plus, in my position, I've tried asking someone where my server was. All I get was "She/He'll be right with you" and I have to wait anyways.

Either way, shit sucks. But life ain't a walk in the park. QQ more.

The bad tippers usually have no concept of how a restaurant is ran. They don't realize that a manager will almost never even allow a server to wait on a table after they've been sitting there for 30 minutes. They'll put a different server on the table, because the first one f*cked up. And that different server usually ends up being screwed because of it. But "tough shit" right, they should just get a better job right? Ask a server sometime why they're serving instead of doing something else. It will make you think twice about saying shit like that.

Ok, so I just got my Papa Johns delivery, and I am looking over the receipt, when I come across something interesting. They charge you for them to deliver the pizza. Now I have no problem tipping people, but my question is this:

Should you HAVE to tip the driver if they are already giving him/her the delivery charge?

That is one of my biggest beefs with Papa Johns.

Personally, I don't think you should have to. I end up feeling guilty so I always tip, but still. Tips changes per service quality. And if they bring me crushed red peppers (I think it's loathsome that they charge you for that too now).

My parents have owned a restaurant before, I know it's tough.

That's still no excuse. You're working there for a reason. I'm not a bad tipper, I'm always sure to tip when whoever is working on my table does a good job. Sometimes shit happens, but I'm still not going to tip if the service is bad.

i only tip a dollar or two per order. drinks are so overpriced anyways, it's really not worth buying a drink at a bar when you can make something just as good (or better) at home and drink before you go out.

I do a dollar for things that are just poured (beer, liquor straight up) and $2 for cocktails, per drink. I think that's why bartenders love me so much.

I don't, only because they charge me $2 for the delivery charge, a gallon of gas currently here is pretty cheap and its not even a 2 minute drive to my house from the pizza place I order from. So i think within that charge between gas and such they still get more than 15% tip.

It's just really interesting, because a lot of Americans have taken the whole tipping situation and ran with it. It's no secret that America has the best customer service in the world because of tipping. But I guarantee you that 90% of all servers you ask would prefer to get paid hourly, even if it's less than what they're making now. Why? Because getting paid in tips sucks.

Some customers think a tip is extra, and you only deserve one if you go above and beyond for their fat ass eating their 4000 calorie dinner.

Some customers think that, just because they're in control of your tip, you have to do whatever they want for the whole hour. I had one guy at my table harass me and ask me for my number, threatening to not give me a tip if I didn't give it to him. I didn't, and he didn't tip me (on an $80 bill, by the way, so I missed out on $16 because of that chauvinistic pig). You get people asking you to check the scores of games, you get people asking you to watch their babies and to not leave the table while they go to the restroom, you get people asking you to cut their bread and put butter on it for them... all these things while you're busy, and trying to work on your other tables too. And if don't do any of these things in a satisfactory way, there goes your tip!

Some customers are rude, demanding, and genuinely affect your ability to wait on your other tables because they want all your attention. Then you get a shitty tip from all your tables.

Of course, even though I'm not waiting tables right now, that's what I did for the past two years and I'll tell you this much...
If you're getting bad service, you're probably in a cheap restaurant where waitresses just don't give a f*ck... or your server can tell you will be a bad tipper. All the typical stereotypes aside, waiters can tell if you are a bad tipper just by your attitude.

If a server went to work for six hours, but unfortunately only had one table, and their well-done steak took a long time to come out (so it SURELY must be the bad service, right???) and the idiot table tips the server $8 on an $80 bill... the server just made $8 working 6 hours. But I guess the server deserves that, right, for not having a better job?

Well, yeah, each job has its ups and downs. The customer isn't responsible for providing the server's income so stop trying to guilt trip the rest of us who don't work in a restaurant environment into doing so. I've worked as a hostess once and even though we get an hourly pay, I would have rather been a server. No matter how much you complain about it, servers at a good restaurant usually take home much more than minimum wage.

If you work as a server, then you do what it takes to get your tip. The customer is always right. If they want you to tell them the score of a game, go find out what it is and tell them instead of getting annoyed and having a bad attitude. If someone harasses you, put in a complaint. As a whole, most people aren't douches, so it sort of makes it hard to believe that your job as a server is really oh-so-hard.

A lot of my friends in high school have jobs as waiters and they make much more than my hourly job right now. It's not an ideal job, but at least it's a job, so do what you need to do to make money. Is that really such a hard concept to grasp?

really. the customer isn't always right. i definitely feel like there should be a line where a server doesn't have to put up with a super needy, whining, complaining customer and still get the tip they deserve. that kind of reminds me of working in a daycare. if a teacher couldn't handle an unruly child they always had the option of taking the child to sit with the director of the center or ask another teacher to step in for a few minutes. a waitor should always have a similar choice.
