So this first theme was Interview: we wanted to see what kind of outfit you would put together to make a first impression. The outfit was to be creative and professional at the same time. So let's see how you did:
Thomas (divergent) ![]() http://www.polyvore.com/inter-view/set?id=6147660 Just thought of a classic white gold scenario, to punch up an interview, throw in some fancy accessories. Arjuna (ArjunaCapulong) ![]() http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=6312756 Aight so I just had a dress and neutral black shoes so my girl could be all like stylish without being too complex, and then she got a watch so she could be all like yo I'm punctual so you should hire me 'cause I'll be on time and what not, and then she got glasses so she look SMART and SOPHISTOCATED. And a ballin' bag so you know she got class and also somewhere to put her paycheck in. HOLLLAAAAA. Maxine (Comptine) ![]() http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=6172034 I chose a blue dress and a gray toned jacket because those two colors are highly successful for job interviews. Blue signifies authority and trust while gray is reliability and sophistication. I kept the outfit simple to keep the interviewee clean-cut and well dressed but not let it overpower the person herself. Maxine submitted her outfit first. LOLJUNA. -- Carrie Sonja (stormbringer) ![]() http://www.polyvore.com/first_impressions/set?id=6230497 I wanted a grey shirt and pant, accented by a pale pink bag and scarf. This oufit projects the wearers sense of fasion, but also a competence which is always important in interviews. I also wanted something that was elegant but fasionable. Makeup and hair would have to be simple, not too flashy or elaborate. The word to describe this outfit would be "elegant." Lea (angelrevelation) ![]() http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=6193748 I think that professional looks can still look easy and young, with a touch of the classics. I'm still young, so I chose the bow earrings which would reflect how I'm not trying to act older. The ring and shoes are "subtle" statement pieces, and the belt is just to give the dress a nicer shape. I chose a slightly tougher bag in a neutral color to balance the femininity. Alex (coconutter) ![]() http://www.polyvore.com/strictly_business/set?id=6140684 My outfit was mostly inspired by the shoes, and I definitely worked around the shoes. I love Christian Louboutin shoes so I had to include them. The blackberry was just a business-like addition to add with the accessories. carolannexbh (Carolanne) ![]() http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=6185468 I put together a simple black pencil skirt and white blouse and added red accessories with red pumps to the outfit to make it less simple. I also added a coach bag to make the outfit more professional looking. Mel (towntown2) ![]() http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=6193691 The girl I envisioned styling is a no fuss lady with a straightforward attitude. I paired a classic LBD with other classic pieces like the tan trench and the black pumps. The twist comes with the red heels and the leather bowling bag. A pair of CZ studs ties it all together. Elizabete (temptedeli) ![]() http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=6269695 Jenny (Jennypie) ![]() http://www.polyvore.com/put-together_under.../set?id=6274081 I have always felt that while the interviewee should appear self-assured and well-dressed, there should be an understated type of appeal about them which shows with certainty that they can perform as well as they look. I think this outfit does that. The blouse and skirt catch the eye and exude confidence, but the rest of the pieces are simple and classic. They are not flashy, but by no means are they boring. The Chloe blazer is well-tailored, paired with a subtle pair of dark plum suede pumps and a structured Balenciaga tote. The jewelry I kept simple: gold studs, and a Tag Heuer watch, pulling together an outfit that is both professional and practical, while being extremely presentable. And a last minute entry from Victoria (Tori-Ann)! ![]() http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=6317557 Thanks to all who submitted! Now the judges will deliberate and we will come up with who'll be cut shortly. In the meantime, talk amongst yourselves =D Like how weird is it that Juna and Maxine chose the same dress? |

I like Mel's (towntown2) outfit. Not quite a fan of the bag she chose, but it's definitely close to what I probably would have picked out. I like simplicity :D

I just noticed his briefcase full of money.
To show that the person is successful? Or to have on hand for a bribery? |

QUOTE she got a watch so she could be all like yo I'm punctual so you should hire me 'cause I'll be on time and what not LOLOLOL Thomas - I don't hate it, I just wonder if the textures would fight with each other. I mean, you have the satin-y pleated skirt, patent leather knotted bag, patent leather shoes, statement-making jacket...together it looks a tad busy. Arjuna - I liked that he kept it pretty simple. While that's a good thing, he could have used some more accessories + a jacket of some sort. Plus those shoes are sort of fug. Practical, but more fug than I'd like. Maxine - lol@having the same dress XD Shoes are hawt. Not as fug as Juna's fo sho. Would have liked to seen a little more pop of colour as the palette is a bit monochromatic right now. Sonja - Grey. The first word that came into my head. I don't think the pale pink accessories do much to set off the overwhelming grey-ness of the whole thing. Lea - I like this, but for an interview? Maybe not. It's a little unprofessional looking. - lol@case of cash. I appreciate the black socks. Alex - Whoa that top is FUG. Would have preferred to have seen a different one, but overall is not bad. Carolanne - Black + white + red accessories. It's all very cliche. Mel - Shoes - hawt. Unprofessional? A little. If you take away the bag and the trench coat she could be going out to a cocktail party, I don't know how I feel about that. Elizabete - Too matchy. Jenny - Fabulous. There's a good balance of artistic fashion + professionalism. You made a dress with a bright yellow top wearable for the office. Final note: I know you guys took some liberties in styling for this round, but I really don't know what kind of interview y'all are going to. ![]() |

thomas - there's just too much going on with your outfit. if you're going to do a blazer with gold trim, don't do a polka-dotted hat. that aside, the hat and the earrings together are way over the top. if you took out both the hat and the earrings, the watch is a nice enough touch to put the whole outfit together. speaking of which..you have a blazer, but where's your shirt?
juna - i like the outfit...and then i get to the bag and the shoes. if you add the bag and those shoes to the outfit, it makes it feel old to me. maybe if you had chosen a different bag. maxine (comptine) - like it all except for the jacket. perhaps it's the fact that i'm looking at the pieces separately. the fact that the dress is belted is a contradiction to the swing jacket. and putting it together in my head, the shape would be awkward. stormbringer - too much grey. and the wool pants don't go with the silk, chiffon-like top. it's an imbalance. if you had chosen a pink top with the grey pants and trench, it would fit a lot better. and, the bag is not professional. looks like something miley cyrus would take to the mall. angelrevelation - i feel like elements of your outfit is a contradiction to your explanation. while the earrings are of you trying to show that you're still young, the shoes are the wrong choice. why? because they're too mature. AND if you wanted a statement color to stand out from all the dark colors, that orange is not a smart choice. if you had something in plum or a beige, it would put the outfit together much better. also, i think you should have chosen a waist-belt to cinch the dress together instead of that one. that belt looks like something you put through belt loops in your pants. one more thing, i think that your statement would have made more sense if you said that the earrings and the ring were the "subtle statement pieces". although i think that i would've chosen a chunky bracelet instead of a ring. - other than the briefcase of cash, good job. you're going for an interview, not a mob meeting. oh, and take out the shades. coconutter - you have quite a lot of colors here. you're trying to work greys, reds, and purples. with a blouse like that, it's tricky too. it could only work if the jacket was unbuttoned. however, the bag then, i feel is the wrong choice. instead, i think that you should have worked around the blouse instead of the shoes. the shoes go with the top, but the bag doesn't. the cut and color just don't work for me. carolannexbh - you're working with different shades of red, which may not always work together. by using your outfit, you wouldn't need the red belt for one. and the watch is slightly unprofessional. also, it's hard to work a cropped jacket layered with a blouse and a knee-length pencil skirt. it would be very easy to cut the body into chunks. and you'd just end up looking chunky. the shoes are also a little prom-like. towntown2 - i really like this. but it might be because you have a vivienne westwood bag there and vivienne westwood accessories are my favorite. perhaps you should have chosen a belt to go with it..one that is a different color from the dress instead of keeping with the one that the dress came with. temptedeli - wow. i don't know where to start. i think you're trying to do too much. i think that the skirt could have worked with a simple, plain tshirt. there's just too much going on with just the shirt and the skirt alone. first you see the ruffles, then you hit the buttons, and then there's that large bubble hem. and then, there's too much pink. i'm not trying to hate on pink, but to have pink pearls on your ears and your wrist, a pink bag, and pink heels, it's just uninspiring. the only thing that works in this outfit is the jacket. jennypie - i like the outfit, but i think that the skirt and the top would work better in separate outfits. again, there's the thing going on at the neckline, and then, there's the shape and pleating of the front panel of the skirt. what do you want as the statement? i don't even know where to look. tori - same thing. there's so much going on. if your skirt didn't have the bow, this outfit would work so well. right now, there's the knotted neckline, and then i see the bow..on both the jacket AND the skirt. if there was no bow on the skirt, this would be my favorite outfit alongside of towntown2's. |

I think many of these are too trendy/partyish for a job interview.
But like Gigi said, it depends where one is interviewing. |

Thomas- I do appreciate the shoes, earrings, watch, and bag, I really don't think the outfit as a whole works. As Gigi mentioned, I'm not sure the textures would all work well together. I do like the skirt, but it'd look better with a less busy jacket. The shoes are to die for though.
Juna- I really like this outfit, except for the shoes. Come on now ninja, ya gotta know those are ugly as haaaaale. A black shoe is a nice choice, but something with some more color woulda been nice too. I love the purse and the glasses too. Sexy paragraph as well. Maxine- Again, obviously I love the dress. Not too sure about the shape of the jacket for most, if any girls. Seems like an awkward cut. The bag is fantastic, but I'm not too sure on the shoes. Sonja- I am really not digging this color combinations. All the greys are different shades and the light pink just doesn't work. The shoes are pretty cute, and I kinda like the jacket but the shirt is awful. Sorry bb. Cute scarf though! Lea- I want to like this, but I just can't. I really dislike the shape and arm length of this dress. The shoes don't go at all, and I'd personally like them more if was just a regular heel, not trying to be oxfordy. The ring is allright, but not really professional. I also don't like the mixing of brown/black accessories. - Classy! I like it, it's dressed up but not stuffy. The tie is smashing and I love the jacket and shoes. LOL @ the case of money. Alex- Hmmm, I really dislike the blue striped shirt with the red accessories. THe jacket and skirt are cute, and can be versatile and professional. I don't like the earrings or the silver shoes. Cute phone though! Carolanne- This is just not job interview approriate for me. I would never wear a cropped jacket and it looks far too sexy for something in an office. The watch and bag are nice. The belt is good too, but the shoes again too sexy and the shirt is just not flattering. Mel- I actually think this is one of my top choices. I am obsessed with the shoes and think they add some much needed personality to this outfit. The dress is simple and the jacket, chic. The earrings are a bit toooo large, or perhaps they are just out of perspective? I love the bag too. Maybe a necklace or different color belt would just give it a punch more life. Elizabete- Sweetheart, this is not Interview wardrobe. The shirt could be cute, but with straight leg/pencil jeans, not a full bodied skirt. The skirt could be nice with a plain, non-textured shirt as well. I hate the accessories, the color is not doing it for me and look cheap. The jacket would probably be the only thing that is somewhat professional. Jenny- I am loving the idea of this color combo and shape, I am just not sure about the conflicting textures of the shirt and skirt. I just don't like them together ![]() Tori- Again, another one of the top runners, although I strongly dislike the bow-belt thingie. The shirt is really sweet, as in nice and innocent looking, but still looks professional. I am in love the shoes and accessories. I don't really like the collar on the jacket, but think a red trench is fabulous. And god only knows I want that bag. Overall, I think mostly everyone missed the INTERVIEW part of this challenge. Yeah, some of these outfits are great first date outfits, but nothing I'd ever even consider for an interview and first impression. A lot are too sexy or too out there for job interviews, and some are just poor fashion choices and shapes. |
