Many of the best jujitsu athletes I know smoke a lot of pot. That's what they do. They eat, sleep, smoke pot, and jujitsu. They say it makes them move a lot smoother.

I learned how to work the momentum on my nunchakus while I was under the influence. So awesome.

So he smokes weed every now and then. Hell, I wouldn't care if he smoked all day everyday. He's still awesome. I don't understand why it's such a huge story. I realize he's doing something illegal, but IT'S JUST WEED. Like mentioned before, I think people, specifically our elders and government, don't like the idea of a marijuana user being successful.

What's even more messed up is that he was with a friend, who probably smoked with him, whom he thought he could trust and got stabbed in the back. That's just pathetic. Of course, his friend doesn't get ridiculed because he doesn't have the status Phelps does. People smoke weed every day and aren't looked down upon. Why's Phelps any different? I know he's seen as a role model, but honestly, weed isn't that bad. Smoking weed is a hell of a lot better than getting legally shitfaced off alcohol every night, making a complete fool of yourself, and possibly driving home and injuring you or yourself. But, you know it's ok, 'cause alcohol is legal. Stupid government.

People care because we live in a country in which marijuana is portrayed to be as dangerous as heroin, and every TV commercial segment features in ad that tells us that anyone who takes so much as one hit of pot will end up being a good-for-nothing pothead -- even though roughly 40% of Americans have smoked pot at least once in their lives.

And partly this is a big deal because that image is shattered: Phelps, a mature adult, smokes pot, but geez, he's one of the most successful athletes alive today. Doesn't look good for the anti-pot movement -- so now they need to press to crucify him so they can continue to convince Americans that weed is a terrible, terrible drug.
