^I agree.

Im so tired of f*cking right wing parents who fail at life itself blaming f*cking anything but themselves that their whore ass kid was stupid and decided "OMG LETS GO MEET THE HAWT GUY WHOS 20 AND IM LYKE 13 AND HE LIKE LOVES ME!!!<33333 LOLOL"

Only in america can we have so many teens who lack the basic concept to not fall for every thing that says "ur hot" "ur 2 cute" "i was in lub wit u @ 1st syte"

I used to watch romantic comedies like they were documentaries. I still do. It's quite saddening.

Tl;dr on the article, but I completely agree with you. If a kid is actually dumb enough to get picked up by an online predator, the parents should be finding their kids, not excuses.

those kids themselves should be in jail for being so retarded. I mean i hate using that word but theres no other way of explaining such stupidity that thrives through america's youth.

finally. I mean jeez if the child gets into a situation its obviously their fault for taking the time getting to know a random stranger over the internet.

i don't think i'd really go that far to say it's a child's "fault" if they get kidnapped thanks to stupid decisions online. i don't think it's myspace's fault either, i'm just saying. kids are kids and they do stupid shit, i think the parents need to pick up way more blame. i would hold them more responsible than i would myspace or a 13 year old girl, but that's just me.

i also don't get the whole thing about this being american kids problem. you mean children aren't preyed upon via social networking sites anywhere but america? or kids in other countries aren't as stupid as american kids?

I know a lot of kids bitch and complain when their parents monitor what they are doing online, but for the most part, it's for their own good. If their parents are like the school and block games and forums, then that's a little far. Parents should also be teaching their kids the dangers of falling for these online predators. Just because they are communicating to them through the internet in their house and they are not coming up the kid saying "want some candy? get in my car." they are still dangerous.

From what ive seen theres not many stories about it happening else where.
Ive seen about 2 or 3 stories about it and they made both parties held accountable legally which is probably why there are less.because over here we seem to only go after the big bad older man but we never go after the idiot child about it. A majority of the problems have come from over here in the states.

really great article you found. i'm definitely going to show this to my hubby.

we have 2 older girls, 11 and 9, and their mother gave them a myspace profile. we were both very upset but the mother swore that she monitors it (hard to believe). when the girls are with us either myself or my hubby are watching over their shoulders. but it still upsets me that they have one in the first place. there's a reason why it's for 14 year olds and up. we are on their friends' list but we are not there and we worry that the mother isn't paying attention either. (sorry to ramble)

^I was on myspace at age 13 and to be honest i have never have had a problem.
Any freaks that hit me up never were added. and if they were i deleted them instantly.so what if i only have a small amount of friends whats important is anyone i meet off there is a decent person who has gone through and passed my very very tough (IMO) screening process

Its all a matter of basic intelligence and instinct.
