tumblr

though they updated their design, it's still the simplest. i used to really like xanga but it's gotten too fancy for me. blogger was okay, just i'd prefer tumblr over it.

I think Blogger.com would be your best option.
The new features added are quite awesome .

Take a look at mine as well

I have wordpress. I wouldn't recommend it. This b#tch is hard to customize.

Blogger. My reason sounds lame, but it's because most people use it. It's easily accessible and most of the community who use it are more serious bloggers, unlike Xanga where you have a bunch of preteens posting lame song lyrics or emo rants about their suckass life.

And personally, when reading blogs myself, I prefer the Blogger ones. It's just way less messy and keeps things more uniform I guess.

Next would be tumblr because I see more people using it nowadays and I like how it looks, but Blogger seems more hardcore, serious blogging (i.e. less random/one sentence blogging) than tumblr.

i think i agree, though i favor tumblr. i used it for more inspirational spam or things that i like because i don't consider myself as a serious blogger. i actually don't like the way tumblr users post most of the time. it's not the pictures that make it look messy but the reblogging part bothers me. it makes it look cluttered, like a whole conversation going back and forth, but i suppose that was the point.

"Doubts and fears, hopes and dreams, likes and dislikes — they all get released into the ether that is Tumblr, and everyone else ingests them."

but i suppose that can go for any blog

Yeah a tumblr seems like a self-updating Facebook status to me, so I know what you mean. It's convenient to put all the random stuff you have on your mind there though, but I'm assuming Arjuna wants a more structured blog.

i think tumblrs good. i wouldn't use tumblr if i was going to have a text based blog, but that's just me. i was a writer for a blog a while ago that was set up on wordpress and i really liked how that was set up. it was never my job to customize the layout so i'd probably take brandon's advice on that if you are really into the layout being customized.

i prefer livejournal for my personal text based blog. mostly i do becuase my blog is private and i share different posts with different friends/family and livejournal has a nice set up that you can group people into different categories to control who see's what. it's easy to use in general though and easy to customize the layouts.

blogspot is sorta ugly set up to me _unsure.gif

Mike's hooking it up, so I'm not too worried about anymore. For simply text based entries, it works. Posting pictures, especially hi-def pictures, can be a pain in the ass.

I would only go near tumblr, blogger, and wordpress.

Tumblr is great if you're blogging casually, and don't always intend to write out real posts.

Blogger is good for the more serious blogging, but you can do better if you know what you're doing.

Wordpress is much better, but you do have to know what you're doing to a somewhat greater extent.

hmm well I'll be posting many photos for sure, so I dunno about Livejournal.

I like Tumblr, but I think I'd use it for more personal blogging and random ish. (and heck yeah, reblogging is confusing as heck)

so that leaves me with blogspot but I wanna know more

Networking is also very important to me.

I don't know, Arjuna. I think blogger looks the most polished, depending on who you want your audience to be. Tumblr is great as well, I just don't see it as a blogging blogging medium.

All you have to do is press the "reblog" link and..reblog the post. It's not that hard. Ignore all the "via [Tumblr user here]" stuff; those are just links back to the other people who reblogged the post before you did.

i think he knows how to reblog. also, i've spoken to true tumblr users who are all about reblogging. lurking in tumblr videochat made me ashamed that i don't follow their trend, only because it looks messy. their point was that it's rude to steal entries from other users and not give them credit, which is the point of reblogging, especially when they do reblog and change the entry. but after all, it is my blog, and i do what i want. if i stumble pictures on tumblr, i try to link the original source, but not from the user... so i'm even worse than those users.
