Oops. I guess I misread the arrest report? I have no idea why the cops would shoot the guy they did and not Carlos.. apparently Carlos was trying to take pictures of the cops and they violated Carlos's 1st ammendment rights and didn't let him. -- shouldn't they have been more angry and Carlos? Why didn't they shoot Carlos and not whoever they did shoot?

Well, (a) because you can't just shoot anyone when you're a copy (this incident notwithstanding; and (b) Carlos Miller wasn't there, so it would've been nearly impossible to shoot him. Read his about page. Carlos Miller started his blog because he was arrested for photographing officers back in February 2007, so now he documents cases of police brutality on his blog.

A new video can be seen here.

It actually looks like the copy is a f*cking dumbass. See the surprised look on his face after the shooting? Looks like he somehow disengaged the safety (or never had it on in the first place) and fired by accident. You'd think basic firearms training would be a requirement for a cop.

We were discussing this in my criminal justice class; apparently he thought he was going for his taser. I haven't been able to watch the video yet, so I haven't formed a real opinion. Evidently there have been numerous occasions of cops shooting each other accidentally because of something similar, but the taser is always supposed to be on the weak side...

I'm a bit skeptical of that claim; I've never handled a Taser, but I've handled pistols, and a pistol is a lot heavier than a Taser -- so you should, at least in theory, know whether you're holding a Taser or a pistol, based on weight alone. But I suppose in the heat of the moment, it might be possible that a person with minimal training could make the mistake.

Yeah, I mean, it sounds really dubious. But my professor is a former cop/GBI agent, and he made it seem almost reasonable. I don't know, though. Amount of training probably would make a pretty big difference.

honestly why would he even be tasering him anyway? what's the point in tasering or shooting someone who's being held face down on the ground already restrained? that's why i don't get it no matter what.
