Animated Gradient Text, for cs3 Options

So I found this tutorial-

but I can't get it to work on pscs3.
I can't get the gradient to show only on the text.
(the tutorial says to press ctrl + g) but that doesn't do anything except make a new group. I can still see it everywhere and not just the text like it's supposed to.

Does anyone know how do get the gradient to show JUST in the text on pscs3?

Try right-clicking on the text layer and select "Blending Options". Then, a box will pop up and there should be an option called gradient overlay which should make it a gradient text.

Oh I know how to do that, but I need to be able to move the gradient around from one side to another.. >_<

You need to add a clipping mask. To do that you need to have that layer selected & then go to the bottom of the layer's palette & click on the gray square with a white circle in it.

Alright. That worked.. but for some reason the gradient is set to grayscale?
The image itself is set in RGB mode but the gradient within the clipping mask is black and white, even though the colors are set to pink, green, orange, etc.

um. only the gradient itself is in grayscale within the clipping mask.
everything else comes out in color.
the image is set to RGB mode, so it's not that.. :(

Oh shit dude, I told you to add a Layer Mask instead of a Clipping Mask. Instead of adding a Layer Mask like I told you to do, go Alt+Ctrl+G & you should get something like this:




Also, can you tell me how you did the custom gradient. I couldn't get it lol.

AHHH =)

Oh & uh. Well you just go to the gradient and double click the color strip thing at the top under near where the menu stuff is.
And you can basically customize whatever colors you want.
or you can search online for pre-made gradients. (I'd check out deviantart!)

No yeah I got that part but I just couldn't customize it lol. But ish all good.
