I'm going to one this Saturday, and the theme is black and white Hollywood Theme cocktail style. And I'm not sure what to wear. Any suggestions?

That's wayy too formal. The cocktail party is at a friends house. It's not at a nice reserved hotel or something like that. I'm torn between a semi-formal outfit. I need ideas!

better fresh than underdressed

I'd usually opt for leisure suit style for a not-full-blown-formal event like this, good example would be in Scarface

As an alternative to open chest, I'd wear an undershirt (probably black), and if you wanted to tone down the "formal" you could even wear some jeans (probably not ripped).

And the cleanest white kicks you got.

These are two outfits I am thinking of.

Black slacks
white dress shirt
black vest over it

or

Black slacks
Black/white checked flannel.
black blazer over it

I sort of prefer the second combo only because the first one is a bit waiter-y to me. I like the vest idea though.

I think I'd go with the second combo too (I agree with the waiter look)

I dunno about the flannel though, I think I'd prefer the white dress shirt

I like the idea of like black slacks with a white shirt and a skinny black tie. the vest is a good alternative as well.

lol the first couple are wayyyy too emo.

and LOL. yes. those two are EXACTLY how i planned on dressing minus the fedora. that flannel pic is dead on. especially with the dark denim jeans, and nike dunks too. rofl. iono mang. i kinda like it. ;[

and maybe you're right about the vest looking too waiter like. hmm any more ideas would be appreciated.

jc- that would look really plain and simple. hmmm.. _unsure.gif

I like the first one w/o the bowtie. Undo a few top buttons and roll up the sleeves.

Smooth.

I like black vests though sad.gif However, it looks bad with a bowtie - which is more waiter-ish. The flannel looks good with the best, as with the picture that was posted. Dunno about the blazer though, but a blazer would look good with anything - even a t-shirt. The outfit looks more pulled together with black slacks though, versus indigo jeans. It depends on how casual or formal you want to be.

Problem solved.

DAMN, that first outfit is HOTTTT. The pants look a tiny bit too short, but that's cool.

i have a black pinstripe vest, but i think it looks better with a black shirt. shrug.gif i don't like black vests over white shirts though because like everyone says it seems like you just walked out of a shift at your job.

edit:

actually it would just depend i suppose. sometimes it doesn't seem that way.
