I had all four of mine out, and they were all impacted. I just felt little pokes in the back of my mouth... the dentist told me i had to get them out before any real pain started.

I had my oral surgery 2 weeks ago on 13 November & was perfectly fine 6 days later & was able to go to work.
I had 4 wisdom teeth & 2 extra teeth removed coz I'm getting braces. My wisdom teeth have been slowly pushing these 2 teeth of mine out which made 1 like at a 45 degree angle...... the other 1 isn't that bad.... but yea..... hence the reason I needed braces & the need to pull an extra 2 teeth out coz my jaw was too small. The top 2 wisdom teeth had already come out, so there was no problem removing them. The bottom 2 impacted wisdom teeth were still under the gum so I was a bit swollen at the bottom jaw. I wasn't swollen to the extent that ppls knew I was swollen. I looked pretty normal, just a bit chubby. Hehe! |

Because wisdom teeth are vestiges from earlier times if/when they grow in they tend to grow in so that they mess up the alignment of your other teeth (called impaction). Messed up alignment = bad, so wisdom teeth = removed.
Edit: Also, apparently, if wisdom teeth fail to completely erupt from the jaw (stay partially impacted), over time this can cause pericoronitis, an infection. |

When I got my wisdom teeth removed, it just felt so weird. I felt like I was in and out of consciousness, only half aware that I was being operated on...halfway throughout the thing I began to hyperventilate and starting crying. WTF?! Yeah but definitely felt no pain.
GOOD LUCK JOANNE! It'll be fine. ![]() |

So it's done. It took 1.5 hours to take those two teeth out (about an hour longer than it took to get my sister's four out) because apparently there was a lot of bone under the tooth and they had to dig it out, and now my jaw is puffed up and I look like I have a square head. I can't wait till this pain wears off.

Haha, nah it's okay. Thank you though. =]
There is a plus side to this pain... I asked my mom to buy me ice cream, and she said yes! She always either says no right away, or asks me if I want to be fat. Soo yayyyyyy |

^Wow thats nice of her. Hot damn parents denying their children some ice cream?! WTF.
Anyway, getting your wisdom teeth out isn't that terrible, sure it hurts but not as much as other major surgeries. Plus, you get some sweet drugs for a few weeks. I had to get all mine out at once because of how they were growing in. I was terrified of going under and remember crying when they put the IV in me, waking up near the end of my procedure, then being at home eating an ice pop. I went to Disneyland the next day. My puffiness was down after a week and the pain went away completely after like 2-3 weeks. I never had to deal with getting food out of my holes, I just stayed away from solids for a while, good diet ehh ;) |

Some of the first (clearer) recollections I have afterwards are of my dry wretching in the car. >.> Yeah, it's not cool, especially when people outside are staring at you like o.0 The ortho-surgeon who operated on me kind of talked to me in a voice like I was a little child. I was 19 or so at the time. |

Word. Several studies have suggested that at least 60% of wisdom teeth removals are unnecessary [1]. WHAT. I'm not going to be sedated... I'll hear/see everything. ![]() i had that too, but i kept imagining other things and kept my eyes shut really tight most of the time. just had mine removed this morning and right afterward, i was really fine. but now the pain is so bad, but the painkiller is kicking in so it's a lot better. this sucks so bad though :/ |

damn guys i still need these things out. they have grown in way more. they don't usually hurt that much, but now i feel like there isn't enough room. if i bite down, half the time i bite the inside of my cheek. i have to physically move my skin inside my mouth so i can bite down all the way. i'm thinking that isn't the best thing. but i'm still putting this off.
any of you guys got your wisdom teeth out in the time since i made this |

^ dude, same here. my dentist tells me to get them taken out every single time i see him, but i've kept putting it off. now they're starting to grow in. you can see a little white corner of a tooth peeking out of the gum. when i get bored, i like to touch it.

It was even hurting at point, so they had to inject me with more of that numbing stuff. =\ |
