This song is getting ridiculously over hyped by the mainstream. I thought she was an indie artist?

Even indie artist can have a hit song, but I don't even know what song/artist you are talking about.

It's gotten popular a really long time after it was released, though.

I didn't either, at first. Now I tolerate it. It's definitely one of the weakest on that album, IMO.

i feel you! this song has been around myspace for almost a year now & i would appreciate it if the radio stations could lay off so the song gets some of its dignity back.

I agree. It's weird when I hear my indie favorites on the radio. Strangely, the same does not apply when I hear them in little rock clubs.

I remember showing someone M.I.A. and she was like, "WTF I can't understand her!" (This was when she came out with Bucky Done Gun.) And now she has Paper Plane in her playlist.

But I also think it's rather interesting that people have been sampling off of that song. Okay, so I only know one song that sampled off of it but that's really besides my point.

Yeah, I just heard the song last week. I'm not an M.I.A. fan, but when shit starts to get popular you can't help it.

Truthfully, I never would have noticed if I hadn't heard it in that bar. It was the only decent song they played.

Although I had noticed a rise in people listening to it here, in the listening thread. If it's that widespread, I'm starting to understand my friend's concern about it promoting violence.

Do indie artists actually complain about their songs being played?

"Damn, now I'll receive some revenue!" (Cute British Accent)

Indie kids confuse the f**k out of me.

Neither commercial failure nor mainstream hit=/=quality.

It's all about composition and tone.

Well, she samples quite a bit of other music, too. I've never consider her an Indie artist shrug.gif Bucky Done Gun got a lot of play here.

^ Just because you're indie doesn't make you unpopular or any less noticed. Like the Def Jam record label, with artists such as LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, etc. Def Jam was independent for years until Russell Simmons sold it to Universal.

I love it when all the faux-indie kids complain, like "SHE'S CONFORMED SHE'S CONFORMED!!!??!?"
Please, spare us.
