ok so, a while back, I saw a post where this chick was making something for her boyfriend with a moleskine. I guess it was like pages filled with pictures and such. I want to do something sort of like that, except for just a guy friend.
how long do you think it would take to make something like that?
where's the best place to get a nice high quality but cheap moleskine? is it possible to, like, sew things onto the cover? laugh.gif
any ideas/tips?

[uhh, didn't know where this belongs. stuck it here, of course.]

moleskins are moleskins, there isn't much price difference unless you are going to go with a wanna be moleskin brand like metro or whatever it's called. i mean it's still not a real moleskin though...

they aren't really that expensive to get the moleskin brand.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=s...amp;x=0&y=0

Amazon's cheaper, but B&N is a bit more expensive. You might eventually end up paying a bit more through Amazon because of shipping.

And, I have an altered book/journal contraption, and it takes as much time as you want to spend on it. Sometimes you just get lost in it and never realize the time has gone by that quickly.

And the cover is leather. Yeah. Too thick to sew anything. Glue would work though.

I was the one who made the book for my boyfriend.

How long it'll take depends on what kind of moleskine you want. My pocket-sized one only has 80 pages and it has limited space, so it's easy to fill it. But I used a large one for my boyfriend book & that had 100 pages and a lot of empty space... It took me almost 2 months to fill 66 pages. Granted, I was working on it at a rate of about 10 pages per week, so if I didn't work on it so much, it would've taken me a lot longer.

Your best bet for cheap moleskine is ebay. The large moleskine sketchbooks I bought were almost $20 & I bought them at crafts stores and Barnes & Noble.

I don't think you can sew things ONTO the cover, because it's pretty hard, but you can always use a glue gun to put stuff on it.

Good luck!

Why do people draw and stuff in them? Aren't they just journals? Someone explain to me moleskine culture.

Ha ha, word. I just use a mini memo pad that I carry around with me to write down my artistic revelations.

It's the paper type. To me, it's perfect for ink. Love it.

Lawl. I use lined paper to sketch in. Helps me attempt to make things proportional.

Here is Michelle's thread of her moleskine: http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...=202553&hl=

Okay. Fair point. That was a dumbass question.

But I guess what I meant to ask is why they're so... popular? Revered? I think those are the words I'm reaching for. What makes them "different" from any other memo pad/composition book/bound notebook? What's with the exceptionalism?

Kristina posted a link to the thread I made showcasing my small moleskine sketchbook. I'll send you a message with a link to my boyfriend book pages. I don't post them anywhere anymore because I felt kind of weird sharing something I made for one guy with everyone, lol.

yeah, most art stores have them

yeah i think it's the paper is thicker than most. i mean it's a good quality little notebook. although i'm way happier with my current skechbook than i ever was with a moleskine...

also i think people want it for this reason

They probably used different generations of the type/style of paper, as compared to the stuff that's on the market today.
