I have run across a few spam posts or rude posts while looking through the forums. Yesterday I clicked the "report" button to notify staff that there was a dumb chain letter post. 3 mods responded and told me that the issue happened a long time ago and has been taken care of.

If it has been taken care of a long time ago, then why is the lame post still there? Why don't mods just delete it? It makes the forums look trashy when there are old spam posts laying around.

Here's a perfect example: http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...t&p=3020516 I don't know why a mod hasn't deleted this already. Not only is it spam, it is also very rude.

I am not blaming the mods or pointing fingers or anything. You guys do a good job at stopping the people who are spamming, but I just don't get why you leave all the evidence after the person has been banned.

Does anyone agree with me?...

We're not supposed to delete anything unless it's advertising.

Edit:
And porn.

Well, it helps if the posts are still there, as if people have questions about the reasons why people were warned, or otherise punished, we can show them exactly what the prblem was.

If it's a question of a thread being specially created to post porn or to advertise, or something else along those lines, that's a different matter, and those threads are usually deleted.

But individual posts being removed presents more of a problem.

What if it was pornography? Which isn't advertising.
Not trying to be a smart ass, just saying. ONLY advertising posts are what you guys can delete?

EDIT: nvm ^

From a member's view point, it just makes the forums look trashy. It gives the impression that the mods don't do their job and don't care about spam.

I am NOT saying that you guys don't care about spam, cause I know that you guys banned the person who kept spamming. But someone who didn't know that will think that the mods didn't bother with it cause they don't care.

In a lot of cases, you'll see a mod telling the offending member to stop spamming in a post after the spam. In some cases, if a thread has a LOT of spam clogging it, the spam posts will be deleted; this has happened in a few Relationship threads.

Also, what James said. I think he listed good reasons.

Mass spam (the kind of stuff that takes up a whole page) is usually deleted.

Well, there is a difference between posting something that is rude and posting something that is bashing. Sometimes members aren't always treated equally, and staff tries to make sure that doesn't happen. i.e. There are somethings that, in the past, have slipped because it was "expected behaviour" of a member.

Usually, the posts or topics are left there for people, including mods, to refer to. When a post or topic is deleted, it isn't gone forever, but it is easier for people to just leave it and reference it rather than shift through the trash and try to find it. Also, if there is a spam topic and other members have posted in it or read it they would probably get mad if the topic suddenly disappeared.

Porn and ads are ALWAYS removed, even if someone else has posted in the topic. Those are the things that make the forums look tashy. Rude posts just make that member look trashy.

laugh.gif That post was completely relevant. You're obviously homophobic.

The mods are at our mercy.

i know im new here, and i know mods everywhere on every website do the best they can to prevent these things, but why not delete very rude things like say... racism? so im hispanic. lets say someone on here posted mean things about hispanics. dont you think it would offend me a little bit? and i bet there are others on this site, too. not trying to be all smart alecky, im just wondering what you would do if it happened... (which it probably, or hopefully wont happen mellow.gif )

Yeah. Usually in those cases it involves member bashing on several occasions so you need the proof before you can, er, convict the person. Otherwise the mods could delete anything and say that something happened when it didn't.

That's why it's probably my biggest pet peeve when stuff gets deleted without warning around here.

If it's something that is extremely rude, though, I don't see a problem with it getting deleted. Usually the posts will stay up where the general public can see them, but in some cases it's best to just delete the post; HOWEVER, if a mod is going to do that it is asked of them in the "Warned Members" thread to quote the reason they are being warned. It helps so that we don't have to dig through the Trashcan. But for the most part it stays, because leaving it also helps with whole "the mods are me!" bit.

well, we all love spam don't we...

i didn't think createblog had spam or junk coming in,
maybe if you anger someone, it might trigger them to
behave in a "spamming" manner. otherwise, be kind &
friendly to your CB member, no spam will be delivered

Why do you keep bumping old topics? You were asked to stop.

I hate it when somebody who never contributes to the forum just comes in and bumps a topic from at least 100 years ago.
