They've been talking about this for a while. My friend that lives in Key West isn't heading home yet because of it. He said if he ever meets a woman named Fay he's going to slap her pinch.gif

I hate the names that they have been naming the Hurricanes or storms lately. The name I want to name my kid is Faye and they just named a tropical storm Fay and the name I just named my new cat is Gustav. They should have just named Hurricane Hannah Hillary for Pete's sake.

The good thing this year is that all evacuations seem to have been done quicker and more efficiently.
Pet crates were passed out in order to reduce the number of homeowners resfusing to leave for fear of their pets' safety.

I wish the evacuees all the best.

This hurricane is going to be crazy, just like Katrina + Rita. I have family down on the Texas coast and they had to evacuate.

At least someone knew what they were doing with the evacuations and such. Sort of.

Neg. Texas hasn't done shit.

Also, Rita was a joke.

I hope Gustav comes straight towards us. My apartment will be completely safe, and it'll allow me to miss class for at least one day. Possibly two.

Oh this was the reason I loved hurricanes. No matter how bad it was, it could have been a tropical storm and I would miss school XD Of course I live at the coast, so perhaps I'm in more danger than what you would be.

It's raining outside, and my boss called me in and told me not to come in today. (I'm a lifeguard at the beach)

What do you mean Rita was a joke?

QUOTE(NOAA)
RITA WAS AN INTENSE...DESTRUCTIVE...AND DEADLY HURRICANE THAT
SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACTED THE FLORIDA KEYS AND DEVASTATED PORTIONS
OF SOUTHEASTERN TEXAS AND SOUTHERN LOUISIANA. [...] AFTER ENTERING THE GULF OF MEXICO...RITA INTENSIFIED AT A RAPID
RATE...FROM CATEGORY TWO TO CATEGORY FIVE IN ABOUT 24
HOURS...WITH WINDS REACHING 165 MPH ON THE AFTERNOON OF 21
SEPTEMBER. THE HURRICANE STRENGTHENED FURTHER AND REACHED A PEAK
INTENSITY OF 180 MPH EARLY ON 22 SEPTEMBER...ABOUT 310 MILES
SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF THE MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. THE
CENTRAL PRESSURE FELL TO 895 MB...THE FOURTH LOWEST ON RECORD IN
THE ATLANTIC BASIN. RITA BEGAN TO WEAKEN LATER THAT DAY...BUT AS
IT PASSED THROUGH THE GULF OF MEXICO...IT PRODUCED STORM SURGE
FLOODING IN PORTIONS OF THE NEW ORLEANS AREA THAT HAD PREVIOUSLY
BEEN INUNDATED BY KATRINA. RITA TURNED NORTHWESTWARD AND WEAKENED
TO CATEGORY THREE ON 23 SEPTEMBER. IT THEN MADE LANDFALL AROUND
240 AM CDT 24 SEPTEMBER JUST EAST OF THE TEXAS/LOUISIANA BORDER
BETWEEN SABINE PASS AND JOHNSON.S BAYOU...STILL AT CATEGORY THREE
INTENSITY WITH 115 MPH WINDS. RITA CAUSED DEVASTATING STORM SURGE
FLOODING AND WIND DAMAGE IN SOUTHWESTERN LOUISIANA AND EXTREME
SOUTHEASTERN TEXAS. RITA WEAKENED AFTER MOVING INLAND BUT
REMAINED A TROPICAL STORM UNTIL REACHING NORTHWESTERN LOUISIANA
LATE ON 24 SEPTEMBER. IT THEN TURNED NORTHEASTWARD AND MERGED
WITH A FRONTAL SYSTEM TWO DAYS LATER. RITA CAUSED SEVEN DEATHS
AND DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT $11.3 BILLION IN THE UNITED STATES.

I mean Rita was a joke as in over half of Houston evacuated only to take 15 hours to drive somewhere that takes 2 hours normally. Others drove north to Dallas, took 24 hours, normally 4-5 hours. More people died driving north and west than from the Hurricane. The Hurricane came and did hardly anything at all.

Now now, your quote might be sarcasm or maybe your post was, but I didn't quite read it.

No, it wasn't sarcasm, honestly. If you're referring to my post being in all caps, it's because that's how it appeared on the NOAA website.

Haha, yeah, they're realizing this now. Originally they were told to get out though, but it changed it's course, again.

Katrina + Rita = Massive Destruction. No joke.

For Katrina, they shut our High School down for 2 days. It was awesome! We didn't have to make up the days or anything. They were just 2 good ol' missed days.

While there was still massive destruction, I think we can all be thankful that it wasn't near Katrina-levels. It actually was not nearly as bad as they were expecting, so at least we can be grateful for that. Most importantly, the levees didn't break, which means that the city should survive in tact.
