Seriously, do none of the staff who run this site actually do anything? Are there even any staff at all? stubborn.gif

Here's the situation;
A good friend of mine discovered she had some photos of herself stolen by a thief and used for their profile here. She has requested to have that fake profile be taken down months ago, but it's still there! I checked back here recently to see if the people running this site did their job, but it looks like they didn't. I decided then to send a message myself about having it be dealt with about a week ago, though I've yet to receive a response, and the damn fraudulent profile is still sitting there!

Now, what is it going to take to resolve this issue? I'd really not want to think this site supports theft and fraud, but it's sure looking that way. Sickening... thumbdown.gif

I'll link to the profile in question later only if I can first see if this site has any authority. Show yourselves, staff, and convince me you'll finally do what needs to be done...

First of all, cB can't delete accounts. The admins can only ban them as the highest point what so ever.

Did your friend even PM a admin?
And please do not blame it on the staff here, they' for sure, do their jobs... mellow.gif

Wow. Can you show me the profile?

I never heard of this problem till now. Please be aware that's there's alot of people here that uses fake pictures of themselves claiming that they are. Examples would be Tamacracker, mycupoftea, and many other people. Hopefully, this problem can be solve. Just know that Staff can do so much controlling cb profiles and what is posted. Only the Site owner, Micron can actually delete a cbprofile and remove the image.

You think if everyone asked to remove the picture from someone that had a fake picture, Jusun would do that... ? _unsure.gif

Lots of people would probably be begging...

Well, there could be a few of reasons why this issue hasn't been resolved, Aluru:

Maybe your friend PM'ed the wrong person.
Maybe the person you PM'ed is no longer a mod/no longer active and didn't receive the message.
Maybe that person's PM box is filled to capacity.
Maybe the message didn't go through.
Maybe that mod isn't active.

In any case, being nasty about it isn't going to help the issue get resolved any faster. You win more flies with honey, after all. Just keep a cool head about it, and now that you've publicly brought it to attention, it should get resolved soon. You should PM Tung, since he's the first mod to post in here, with your friend's name, and then he'll get it to the right people.

But I think admins can delete. Suzzette was an admin when she went crazy and deleted people's profiles, I thought.

Alright, I won't be so strict/nasty/whatever about it anymore, but surely you can understand how ridiculous it is to see your friend being exploited for someone else's gain. It's even worse to not see anything be done about it after so long. I apologize for sounding like a jerk, but this rather irked me.

As for why the PMs weren't responded to or possibly never went through at all, it's anyone's guess. I don't know who my friend PMed, but I used the "contact" link at the bottom of the page. That's where you contact the head people of a website, isn't it? _unsure.gif

Well anyways, I'll send Tung a PM with the link to the profile. I apologize again for the disturbance...

Nooooo, when you send a message through the "Contact" link, that goes to the e-mail of the webmaster/creator, I assume, Jusun, who isn't around, ever. It would've been better to click on the "Moderating Team" link towards the bottom of the forum index, on that line right about the list of members currently online. Then you could've PM'ed an (active) admin directly. But you wouldn't've known that, since I assume you just joined up to post on behalf of your friend. It's cool though, that's a mistake anyone would've made.

Sorry that it's taken this long for the situation to get resolved though. Identity theft is a big issue, especially here on cB. We don't like people getting credit for anyone else's work, and the same extends to fake profiles.

Oooooohh, I see. I had no idea. I guess I never saw the "moderating team" link...

I was hoping to have the issue be dealt with without the need to make a scene, but I guess I went about it the wrong way. Making websites look bad over personal matters isn't something I take pleasure in doing, so you know. I'm sure this is a nice site and all, and I have no intention of making things worse. Although, as you guessed correctly, I did only join to take care of this issue for my friend, and no offense or anything to the site, but I won't be staying. I'm already too preoccupied at other places.

Identity theft really does suck.

Just a random thought but wouldn't it seem odd that the contact link is basically useless if it goes to the the webmaster/creator if they are not here often/at all.

^ No one's saying that that isn't odd. If you did some searching, especially in this forum, you'd see that a lot of people consider it intensely problematic. But there's nothing we can do about it, really.

I've removed the photos from the profile in question. If you or your friend notice him doing it again, please let us know, and we'll take further action.

Like everyone has said, your friend probably didn't PM anyone of staff. Admins can't delete accounts, but we can remove contact. There is no need to get angry when you do not know exactly what happened. For future reference, PM someone on the Moderating Team. Since this has been dealt with, can this be moved to Resolved?

Thanks a lot!

I saw that the main (big) one is still there, though. Are you not able to remove that one or something?

If this happens again, I'll notify someone in a more efficient manner. biggrin.gif

Oh, I thought I had, apparently I have to do the actual profile picture seperately, my mistake.

But I'll take of that, too, and then move this over to the Resolved section, if that's ok?
