Apparently, she was one of the homeless girls who was in the background of the first shoot of cycle 10, and Tyra scouted her for the show before knowing her history.

Oh, I think it is so funny when people do this. Its such a weak attempt at making fun of me. I mispelled a word, you know what I meant. It wasn't a misspelling, it was a grammar mistake. And I wasn't making fun of you because of your typo. I was trying to draw a comparison between your lack of grammar (education) and your intolerance towards others that are different. Just because you don't understand those that are transgendered, it doesn't make the choice to have one on ANTM "stupid" and nor does it make the person in question "unhealthy." Intolerance is never cool. |

I think its f**kin stupid to have a tranny on there! YOUR NOT A WOMEN.... GO GET HEALTHY!!!!! You realize that some people are born male or female due to chemical imbalances (to put it simply) and it's really not something they can do anything about? Many times, when children like that are born, it's up to the parents to choose what gender they'd like their kid to be and, unlike what most parents think, they don't always choose correctly. In these cases, a lot of people who don't get a sex change end up depressed and suicidal, so I'd say that by "becoming a tranny" was her way to "get healthy." |

I believe transgenders are unhealthy people who are confused about their sexuality. And I dont agree with the show highlighting that kind of lifestyle and promoting it when there are many young, vulnerable people (kids) who watch it. And that is my opinion, it doesnt make me mean or intolerant at all. |

Firstly, the link I was trying to make is/was metaphorical. Do I really think you're uneducated? I don't even know you.
Secondly, there's a big difference between gender and sexuality, which by I'm assuming you mean sexual orientation. Obviously since not all gays and lesbians change their gender. In fact, a transgendered person might consider themselves "straight" (if such a thing exists) because they identify as the opposite gender. Sometimes, say, if a transgendered person is married before they start transitioning, they'll stay with their partners because of a love that goes deeper than just gender and surface appearance. Thirdly, I doubt that your statement that you're not intolerant. For example, "that kind of lifestyle." What the hell is that supposed to mean? Being true to who you really are, and openly at that, is not a "lifestyle." |

Anyway, a man who thinks he is/was supposed to be a woman and a woman who thinks she is a man are both confused. The society we live in today including the media and hollywood make it look like these people are normal. But they are not. And what I mean by "that kind of lifestyle" is a lifestyle in which a person is confused about their identity and their sexuality. Being true to who you are and being confused are two different things. And on another note, what about bisexuals. If you havent noticed it is becoming popular to be "bi" nowadays, especially in high school. Just like it is popular to be "gay/lesbian." A lot of young people are jumping on the band wagon. Its not "who they are," its just another sinful lifestyle. |

I love moments like these on the forums, when a fairly trivial thread turns into a debate.Anyway, a man who thinks he is/was supposed to be a woman and a woman who thinks she is a man are both confused. That is to say there is a profound difference between the physical traits and the meaning that those physical traits are supposed to have or the duties that a certain set of physical traits are supposed to assign (male vs. man; or [a bit easier to comprehend] female vs. woman). 2. And you say you're not intolerant. Well, I guess intolerant is the wrong word. You're just stuck in a heteronormative mold. It's okay, we're all like that to a certain extent. How old are you anyway...? |

I'd rather be 'sinful' and happy, than spend my life contriscted by the morals of a religion in which I may or may not believe.
Explain to me how pursuing personal happiness is not normal. |

I find it useless to argue with people who are obviously too ignorant to get the big picture.
It's more than just "what makes you happy," I hope you realize. Some transgender babies were born with mutated/different sexual organs, i.e. enlarged clitoris or shallow vaginas, due to imbalances during pregnancy. In cases like that, it's up to the parents (usually) to decide what gender they think the child should be. The doctors then proceed to perform the necessary surgeries. It's not the case with every transvestite, of course, but I don't think it's right for you to group them in this mindless bubble where you think they're "wrong and confused." |

When you begin to change who you are (your sexuality) its not natural. Of course, you all who are debating my opinion have a strict world view. If im in a "heteronormal" mold, I bet you havent even considered my way of thinking. I respect transgenders, gays, bis, and lesbians. Ive actually had a few as friends. Im not mean to them and I certainly dont offer my opinion to them. But I do think that they are unhealthy. Have you even considered that? And I know that my opinion is not popular, especially with society trying to show everyone that this lifestyle (theres that word again) is "normal" and you need to just "be who you are." But do you really think it is necessary to have a transgender on a show that many young people watch? Its completely unnecessary and it really upsets me and I bet it upsets many parents. Im 19 by the way, how old are you? I find it useless to argue with people who are obviously too ignorant to get the big picture. It's more than just "what makes you happy," I hope you realize. Explain to me how pursuing personal happiness is not normal. Are you a transgender? Are you speaking from personal experience or for someone else? |

Way to triple post.
Just by saying that im "too ignorant to get the big picture", It shows me that you are ignorant. At least im debating my opinion with others. You just declare right away that you are absolutely right and im wrong. I guess I wont reply to you cause you wont even consider it. =) What I mean by "too ignorant to get the big picture" is that your view of the transgender issue is purely based on your limited perception of what a transvestite is. You haven't bothered looking into the realm of medical issues, WHY someone might be what you called "confused," what makes someone feel like a female or a male, etc. A lot of it is due to the hormones and chemicals in your body, not just a "oh, I think I want to be a girl today" feeling. Many "males" who later get surgery have feminine features already because of a significant lack of testosterone, etc. Why should they be stuck in a male body when they obviously lack what it inherently takes to be male? That said, your views are your views. I don't condemn homophobes, racists, or sexists of being ignorant because I think people should be allowed the liberty of their own views. I'm calling you ignorant because your reasoning is based on a very limited understanding of transsexualism and you're just skipping over any attempts at a scientific explanation made by other people. |

The word you're thinking of is sex. And if I didn't consider your way of thinking or respected your opinion, we wouldn't be debating right now, would we? And I don't have a strict world view, obviously. I'm very open-minded. More than you seem to be, anyway. I don't think being transgendered is "unhealthy" or "sinful." Have I ever considered being transgendered "unhealthy"? No. When I was younger, I probably considered it unusual (I mean, because it is, I don't know what the rate of transgendered identity is, but it's probably not that high), but I've never considered it unhealthy. And yes, it is necessary to have a transgendered on a show that many young people watch, to expose young people to an alternative lifestyle to combat the various social phobias and discriminations that exist (i.e. homophobia, racism, sexism, which, interestingly enough intersect in the case of Isis). It's also going to be of great benefit to those who aren't openly LBGT, not even as a role model (since Isis said she's doing this for herself), but to let them know that they're not alone. And I'm 22. |

And I'm 22. Your right about you respecting my opinion. You obviously do and I respect yours also. Sorry, but sexual orientation/gender identity is part of who a person is. Along with someone's personality, opinions, habits, beliefs. It all makes up you. I am very open-minded. More than most people actually. According to the statistics, the National Center for Transgender Equality estimates that between 0.25% and 2% of the U.S. population is transsexual. That is an extremely small amount. If this kind of thing were normal, dont you think there would be more transsexuals? And for all the shows, like ANTM you claim, which help combat various discriminations there are the same amount which encourage discrimination. And thats the problem with the entertainment industry. Making LBGT people feel like they are not alone, they are actually giving them the idea that its ok to be transsexual. I dont want my kids (if I had any) or my neices or nephews watching a show that encourages that lifestyle. |
