I would say that the most obvious answer would be that the coding you have is for a website layout not for myspace. So it wouldnt work, how do you tell the difference between a website layout and a myspace layout?
all website layouts will start with a hierachy like this CODE <html> <head> <title></title> </head> or this CODE <!DOCTYPE> but all myspace layouts start like this CODE <style type="text/css"> keep that in mind next time you pick out a layout :] hope that helps :] |

^ it won't go in your style sheet, as that's where styles go, not HTML. put that code between the <div> tags you want your navigation to appear.
