QUOTE(ojairus @ Aug 17 2008, 01:59 AM) *
why is HKG there own team?

Hong Kong is a part of China, but a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China. Hong Kong operates, in some areas, completely separately from China. So it's like one country with two different systems.

I suppose they could be part of the same team as China, but they are different regions, so...*shrug* And besides, no one from Hong Kong is good enough to compete on the Chinese team anyway.

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif @ Usain Bolt trotting and winning and running a 9.9. Tyson Gay better come with it if he want to beat this dude. Bolt was straight stylin.

Bolt was just trotting down field in the finals and ran a 9.69. I'm surprised no one is talking about how fast this dude really is. He slowed down to show off the last 25 meters and still set a world record. Thats more mind blowing than anything Phelps did IMO. The announcer even said he could run video game times. laugh.gif

Woot who watch the running marathon?!!

Constantina Tomescu-Dita was crazy. She had the lead for so long. Woot. It was basically a race for silver and bronze between Kenya and China.

my parents and i were watching that and we seriously laughed when we saw the lead. craaaazy!

i get so super jealous of olympists-even though i'm proud of them, i wish i could be as talented!

he has the most amazing body i have EVER seen.

edit//jason lezack is also awesome-michael couldn't have done it without him!

I still want to Photoshop a hotter face on him though, because his body = hoooooot.

Me too! LOL
QUOTE
The honey is actually used like Stick-um; to provide a better grip on certain elements in "hanging" events. We always see gymnasts chalk up both their apparatus (to make it easier to swing on) and hands (to prevent cracks in the skin). By placing a little honey on either their fingertips or palms (or both) gymnasts can get an even better grip on the rings or bars while swinging.

Exactly...

Jamaicas Usain Bolt destroyed everyone by 'day light' as the commentator described it. They said his 100m run went into "video game" time. 9.69s. New World Record.

Thats African Zebra time. Ridiculous.

Yea...but actually Jamaica's whole track team are some beasts; it's like USA vs. Jamaica on the track...

I'm so happy Canada's got 7 medals now!
2 Golds in Wrestling (Women's Freestyle 48 kg) and Rowing (Men's Eight)
1 Silver in Rowing (Men's Pair)
4 Bronzes in Swimming (Men's 1500m Freestyle), Wrestling (Women's Freestyle 55 kg), Rowing (Lightweight Women's Double Sculls), Rowing (Lightweight Men's Four)

And I was so sad we wouldn't win anything too. =D

But at least there's still some event gymnastics.

In the next two weeks, I swear they're going to come out with some gymnastic voting scandal. It's been too all over the place. And that tie breaker between He and Liukin was bullshit.

I haven't seen that yet.
But I do agree that the judges have been unfair in some of their scorings.

I didn't watch it live, just the condensed version, so I don't really get how they chose between He and Liukin. So they had the exact same score, then what? Someone care to elaborate?

From what I understand (and my Cantonese is not excellent), they chose based on what category they lost marks on - apparently Liukin lost more points in a more important category? But I have no idea on the details.
