^ The fireworks that were shaped as footprints were created earlier, and then played for the Opening Ceremony. I don't really consider that to be "faking it" though, since the actual fireworks posed as a danger to Beijing (there are certain laws in the capital city that prevent fireworks that are too high to be fired - and that makes for a crappy display). I'm quite certain that the set of footprint fireworks that were fired directly over the Bird's Nest were real though, since you could hear the audience gasp.
Also, I don't understand how lip syncing and 'faking' fireworks allows you to lose all your respect for an entire country and its people. I don't hate/disrespect Americans because George Bush is a dumbass. |

Im really disappointed with the chinese over this, given the fact people with the voice are more beautiful then the people with looks. [my opinion]
also Im not sure if its just me but does it seem like whenever some sport is up against china and the judge that the judge seems to be a lot more "alert" to the game, like the badmiton game yesterday? |

I don't hate/disrespect Americans because George Bush is a dumbass. exactly. fake fireworks. oh noes. lip syncing. OH NOES!!!!! because all of these things are really really relevant to a country's "prestige" or whatnot. I understand the shock and disgust that arises from the lip syncing, but losing respect for an entire country over something like that? the directors made the choice, not the entire population of china. all countries make plenty of choices that are deemed disrespect-worthy, but do they get the same amount of criticism for it? all I have to say is that with the spotlight comes the nitpicky criticisms. |

Why are you guys losing respect and very disappointed at China?
Their culture & government think differently than us. sometimes we have to accept their ways of doing it in certain degree, of course? |

I read in a newspaper recently that the little girl was proud that her voice was being used for her country.
That just shows you how amazing kids are. And tbh, China has done a lot worse than employing a little girl to lip sync. Then again, so has every other country in the world. While it is sad that girl was replaced, stuff like this happens all of the time. I bet a whole load of other crap will go on in the 2012 Olympics. |

^ You know what, on the flipside...two girls got to be a part of the Olympics, as opposed to one. You could look at it that way. From what I've read, both families agreed to the set-up and were both proud to merely be a part of the whole Opening Ceremony.
f**k, if I was that "ugly" little girl, I would totally sing for them even if I couldn't actually be there. |
