I love when artists do this, I just feel so connected. That, and you know that they're actually singing. Some people think it's unprofessional and don't like it. Discuss.

I find it funny & feel bad for them at the same time. I know what you mean about the connection thing though. I mean just because they're famous doesn't mean they're not capable of making mistakes, right?

I've never thought of it in that way before! Haha, I guess all artists should mess up every once in a while to show that they're not lip-syncing.
But honestly? I think it's kind of sad if they forget their own lyrics. I mean, the song must not be very memorable if the singer him/herself can forget the words so easily. Some singers do make up for it by making witty lyrics in replacement, though haha =D I remember I was watching MuchMusic (kind of like a Canadian MTV) once, and Nick Lachey was on. The VJ and him were playing this game that was like "guess the song", and the VJ send a couple lines of his own song and he has NO IDEA what it was. Haha, so embarrassing for him. xD |

Yeah, I agree with manny-the-dino, for many reasons. I disagree how people look up to famous people as a god-like* figure rather then another person; celebrities making mistakes will make people realize that indeed they are humans. Coconutter also posed a good point, but no artist will ever forget the lyrics to their own song on purpose, and I would be ashamed as an audience if they messed up on a show that I payed for, but then again that's my opinion. Maybe people like when artist mess up, they probably like, "Oh shit, a remix!". *Maybe not exactly god-like, but think about this. Which one dominates your walls in your room, symbols of God, or posters of celebrities? I guarantee you the majority will say celebrities. Skangster |

Well some artists like Regina Spektor have written over 700 songs and she forgets the words to her songs allll the time. At some point, it's kind of hard to remember so many songs.
The reason I brought this up is because I saw Jack Johnson last night and he forgot the words to two of his songs. I KNOW he writes his own songs |

HOW WAS JACK JOHNSON????? I was considering buying tickets to his concert, but I didn't think he'd create a very exciting concert atmosphere...
I can imagine Jack Johnson saying something witty and funny in replacement though. =] |

I love it, cause if they havce really dedicated fans, the fans help them out.
It's kinda fun helping them, makes you feel closer with the artist kinda. :D |

LOL, first thing I thought when clicking on the topic title was "Well, at least you know they aren't lip syncing". Unless if it's something major, most people don't even notice.

I had great seats because it was a general admission show (which is super fun because everyone is running to get the best seats), he was really laid back on stage too. It was really fun though, he played for a long time, and his piano player was dancing while he was tuning his guitar. You should see him whenever he comes around again |

I don't mind it.
I do, however, mind when I pay to go to a show and the band lets the crowd sing the whole time. I didn't come to see 500 people I don't know singing your songs, I came to see you sing your songs. It's cool to do it every once in a while, but doing it in every song just seems lazy to me. |

I feel bad for them when it happens and it makes me respect them more because it shows that they're human and make mistakes just as we do. Plus, the fans usually know all the lyrics and help them out anyway.

You've been to concerts where they do it all the time? It sure would get old for me. It's only good for the popular songs imo. |

I've always felt okay about it. They're human, just like us, you can't expect them to remember all of the lyrics.

The Jonas Brothers do it a lot. They suck anyway, so it's probably an improvement. It seems like at half the shows I went to last semester the artists forgot their lyrics. Colin Meloy especially, but considering how verbose The Decemberists are, it's hardly surprising. And god knows I understand, because I have suprisingly bad retention for lyrics. |

It would be boring if artists always remembered all the words, so I think it's fine if they forget once in a while.
