Like Gigi said in the other thread, is there any proof that China cheated? If there was any suspicion that they did, the officials would have taken over and investigated everything.

It really really pisses me off when people just jump into conclusions about China. Yes, it's a communist country, but does this have anything to do with the Olympics? f**k that.

QUOTE(demolished @ Aug 11 2008, 07:03 PM) *
somehow, i cant trust China and their winnings?

QUOTE(demolished @ Aug 12 2008, 05:04 PM) *
Yes, cheating ruins my entire perspective for communist China's sports. How could their government let it slide? ;[

I didn't say they cheated, but there was suspicions otherwise it wouldn't be display in worldwide. When the media publicize their suspicions, it does ruin my perspective.

With that question mark indicated in my post earlier, I didn't push the claim that it was true which means I wasn't sure if I could trust them with their winnings with their young competitors that looks like their body are still developing.

When the media are putting China down WHILE china put so much money into the Olympic, it confuses me. China was able to make such a great worthy event which pleases people.

At the same time, the media is putting them down. If the government didnt have anything with the competitors, why are they letting it slide by not defending them or do something (not that i heard of)? That's makes me so confused.

Why would such a economical country spend so much money into one thing and then they got a bad reputations for their competitors.

Maybe a communist country may possibly have anything to do with the Olympic? They were the ONE who host it since communism can pretty do anything they want OVER the people's will. As you know, I'm not very bold on this part.

and sorry to make you mad. _unsure.gif

That lead that Phelps gave wasn't even right. The other competitors looked like turtles compared to it/him/the US team.

She really does. Even if she's a gymnast, she's just way too small to be (15 going on) 16.

Okay I was watching the womens gymnastics... sure the Chinese gymnasts look young, but pretty much all Asian girls look super young for their age PLUS they're gymnasts. And all female gymnasts are petite as hell.

But meh, I'll admit I might be a bit biased and refuse to believe they lied about their ages.

I dont know if you're talking to me, but i'll reply.

I think you may also be right about Asian girls do look younger than their age in general. The western media may not be familiar with a 16 years old looking girls. I mean, how much young Asians do you see on tv? Not much, but they are breaking into it the media, but there's no young Asian girls in it. I think it's also the factor that leads to accusation because the population of u.s isn’t mainly Asians. Of course, it's easy to make assumption to someone's age when you never seen them, see any familiar faces, or connect with them.

Growing up in California, I had never seen these darn young Asian girls.

and oh yeah, being skinnier does make people younger too.

Haha, I wasn't talking to you... just thinking out loud. =]

It's not just the Asians... I think Shawn Johnson looks freaking young (but maybe it's just her height), and same with that Russian girl! *searches her up...* Ksenia Semenova. Yeah, she looks like a little kid.

The US choked hard. Especially Alicia Sacramone. Shawn Johnson was excellent, for the most part (except she when stepped out of bounds during the floor exercise).

Agreed. From my own personal observation, I know of some girls that look that young, even in my own school. There are constantly 10th graders that look that young, and they're all Asian. I mean, look at Cheng Fei (the oldest girl on the Chinese Team). She's 20, but she could definitely pass as 16. On the other hand, a lot of the white girls look like they're 20! Holy crap. And also agreed with them being skinny - a lot of girls that are skinny even from a young age don't develop as quickly as other, more meaty girls.

The suspicion is valid though. And although only the passports count as proof of their age - I'm sure that if there was enough suspicion, more investigation would have been done. Also, I highly doubt that China would do something as shameful as that, because we all know how important it is for them to not lose face, especially on the international stage.

The Chinese want the Olympics to be PERFECT, and this would be a terrible dirty mark on their otherwise good record. As much criticism as China (constantly) gets for their government policies, environment, toxic crap in random toys (lol), I have to say that the Olympics have been a great success so far.

Was Alicia Sacromone the girl that fell off or something? She looked like she wanted to cry the entire time after that. I felt really bad for her. Although, Cheng Fei on the Chinese team bombed it too. The two teams were super close though - but the Chinese pulled through on the uneven bars. That one girl was flippin' AWESOME.

I love Phelps' face!

Thorpe shouldn't have retired so early in my opinion.
He could've competed in this Olympics too.

To each his (...her) own. And Ian Thorpe - better to quit while you're ahead, I think. If he competed this time, it would've sucked to be constantly compared to Phelps.

Sorry for the double post (can't edit right now for some reason).

But I was TOTALLY wanting Canada to win at least one medal in the diving event today. BUT NOO. Jesus. I just want us to win ONE MEDAL, be it Gold, Silver, heck, even Bronze. Despatie is a killer diver, but his 37-year-old partner bombed. wtf. The Chinese team was ahead Russia like...38 48 points or something. That's just wrong.

yep, she's the one who fell and the team in general made little mistakes here and there. they deserve their silver.

I feel bad for Alicia. She must feel terrible.

So they have to be 16? Or can they be 15 going on 16? Because when one of the Chinese girls did the vault they put her age as '15' on the TV screen.

^ I think it was that you have to be 16 in that Olympic year. So, your birthday can be in December (and therefore you'd be 15 in August), but as long as you will be 16 in 2008, then it's fine.

The U.S. was doing a great job. Especially Nastia Liukin.
But then maybe the pressure got to them.
It was kind of sad to watch.

Sacramone's actually really good.
But they got silver, so it's not all bad.
