It depends. If you meet someone online who lives near enough you so that you can date them in person, that's fine. If you date exclusively online, you're not necessarily any of the options you listed, although you could be.

Saying "e-dating online" is redundant.

That's not really e-dating then. mellow.gif That's dating someone you met online, and then start dating in real life. Matchmaker.com rolleyes.gif

I'm talking about dating online, and have never ever met each other in person yet.

I know you are, but some people lump using dating sites and actual e-dating into the same category.

Hoho, I can't believe it really works. tongue.gif

Well, in all honesty. I met this girl who lives in Australia through this teen wannabe e-harmony (don't ask) and we really hit it off, the only thing thats keeping us apart is basically distance. I mean, I'm not socially deprived or anything but sometimes you just find people who you really connect with. XD.gif

For the people who e-date, good for them. It depends on what kind of people they are, in my opinion.

Me and my friend made an account on Mate1.com and we put a picture of Trish Stratus and then we got like tons of e-mails from all these desperate people. This one guy sent us a picture of his penis. It was so funny :3

I was just watching this on the Tyra show!! laugh.gif They had an "opposites attract" thing and a bunch of the couples met online, through myspace or w/e. According to Tyra and the people on the show, they encouraged people to be more "open-minded" and not be so shallow. So I'm guessing another idea is that maybe people think they have a wider selection of meeting someone online who they could connect with. Personally I think the bigger reason is because they can't find a bf/gf irl. But there are also people who are really shy irl but allow their personalities to open up more online, although i wouldn't say that's the best way to start up a relationship...

This is a bit off topic, but...

I think some people are completely different online than in real life. I mean, it is very easy to hide behind a screen and make a whole new personality. And it's so easy to lie and trick people into believing you're somebody you're not.

(I'm sure Gigi has mentioned this before) I have a friend who got jipped at least a thousand dollars by a girl he met online. What makes it worse is that this girl was actually someone he knew and is friends with in real life. She used some pictures of this cute girl she found online. It makes me sick just thinking about it.

And yeah, like Cristy said, "E-Date Online" is so redundant.

Plus, and I'm sure Gigi has mentioned this before, I have a friend who got jipped at least a thousand dollars by a girl he met online. why'd he give her a thousand dollars?

Ugly + socially inept = can't find a bf/gf irl

It's pretty much just sad desperation. If you meet someone online and then date them...ok. But if your whole relationship is online, that's a joke.

you can't control how other people fall in love. if it happens to be with someone on the other side of the country/world/computer screen, so be it.

in this day and age, humanity chases technology. if the means is there, why not use it?

I think that if you meet someone online, fall for him/her, and eventually meet, then it's great.

But if the relationship is exclusively online and does not go beyond that, then it's time for those involved to re-examine the relationship.

You know what? People find love in different ways now, so if it works..then I guess it works.

"Null"

There a number of reasons why someone would "date online" and the choices listed are missing a few of them. Things like lonliness, false hopes (of actually one day "being together"), fear of real intimacy and much more, I'm sure. Those are some things that come to mind.

When it becomes destructive or pathetic is after the point it becomes crystal clear that nothing will come out of it. If you continue to pursue the relationship after that, you're either an emotional masochist or completely in denial.
