im not sure if this is the "official way"
but i was taught

mix mochiko with water. then mold into balls with your hands.
that's how i make boba.

&you can add any liquid to it, like make up something.
we usually boil water with brown sugar &other sweet stuff.
then ice it with the boba[x

Your sisters are so nice! My sister makes me pay her back for every little thing. _dry.gif If I miss it once I have to buy it twice in a row the next times.

The liquid is basically anything you want. My mom used to make it using coffee plus cream and sugar.

Anyways, I go to Santana row almost every weekend, to go shopping at Valleyfair, then go to Urban Outfitters at Santana Row.

Haha, Tung, when I visit Cali to be a tourist and not for the Korean Music Festival, you have to show me all your favorite shopping places. We'll go to Lollicup every day.

Dude, I come back from running an errand for my mom and find 20 new posts in this topic. What?

I think that's because a lot of the posts are technically spam. As much as I love how the club has revived (really, thanks to everyone who's posting), leave each other profile comments or IM instead of clogging the club with posts not pertaining to bubble tea. Thanks. :)

QUOTE(venti-anemoi @ Jul 16 2008, 11:06 PM) *
Do you guys buy your own bubble tea or do your parents buy it for you?

I buy my own, but my mom will randomly buy some for me and my brother every couple of weeks.

QUOTE(Tomates @ Jul 16 2008, 11:22 PM) *
Does anyone know how to make bubble tea?

I'm 90% sure I've made a post on this before, but I guess I'll retype my instructions (>_<):

You can find bubbles (/black pearls) at any Asian grocery store near you, and they're really cheap. One package should be around $1. To prepare the bubbles, pour a cupful into a pot of boiling water, and wait a few minutes for them to get soft. There should be more specific instructions on the package. As for making milk tea, add milk and sugar to the tea (I use Lipton teabags). Refrigerate the tea till it's cold, then pour some into a big cup, and add the bubbles you made beforehand.

That's just how to make the most basic kind of bubble tea. You can add bubbles to coffee, taro milk tea, anything really.

Are they lots older than you? My sister's two years older and in college, and she's all "I buy my own clothes now so I don't always give the receipts to mom, so you have to pay me back" but it's not even her money in the first place. <_<

I'm drinking bubble tea right now! :] I went with my parents on their nightly walk. I got mint milk green tea; it's pretty good.

I'm Zephyr (alias). I'm Asian and I actually live in Cupertino, land of the asian students who freak out when they get B+'s. I know of you (who here doesn't? XD) and I hardly ever go to Valley Fair/Santana Row because my family isn't big on spending money. But I love it there. :] And you're lucky to have Lollicups so close to you. _dry.gif
Nice to meet you :]

Wow. I never met anyone name Zephyr before. That's a very interesting name haha. Oh haha. Well I go there often cuz I'm like a shopaholic. I spend all the money I make on clothes lol. Where is this Lollicup in Santana Row. I've never heard of one there. I might have to do some research now. mellow.gif But yes, nice to meet you. And I'm not very known here on cB. So I thought you might not know who I am lol.

I've never been to Lollicups before; I looked up the locations on their website and it said there was one near Santana Row.

Quickly's suck. There tapioca balls suck hardcore. They use really cheap balls. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who loves Tea.

Places I would recommend is Tapioca Express, Q-Cup.

Sometimes Quickly's bubbles are really good, and sometimes they aren't cooked very well. But the tea part is always pretty good, which is why I still go there.

Psh, Tung. You're infamous around these parts. >P

No! I'm not that kind of girl. I'll hold my own shopping bags, TYVM. xD But if you volunteered to hold some of my stuff, then I'd be okay with it. And you'd only have to buy me stuff if you wanted to. I'm not greedy. :P

I've always thought that Ten Ren's tea is a little better than Quickly's, but that their bubbles are too soft. That's why I divide my bubble tea visits between the two stores, depending if I want better tea or better bubbles. xD

Haha, yeah, same here. Except sometimes it also depends on how much money I have at the moment. Then I maximize the amount of bubble tea I get for the least amount of money. :P Which usually means Verde.

I've never been to Ten Ren, so I don't know. shrug.gif

I think the Ten Ren near me raised the price of their regular cup, from $2.50 to $3, so I don't go there anymore. So actually, I go to Quickly more than I go to Ten Ren, because saving $1 makes a difference! ._.;

I just looked up Ten Ren store locations. There's one in Cupertino! http://www.tenren.com/california.html

When you do, tell me if the bubbles there are a little too soft.

Hmm, I wonder how it is that you never knew about that Ten Ren since you've always lived in Cupertino (I assume; correct me if I'm wrong).

Not always, just for the past six or seven years. XD My mom doesn't shop at Ranch99 very much, and there are a lot of Asian stores in the Cupertino Village, and it's pretty far from the street, so I never see it when we're driving by.
