Omg, yay for less popular European countries getting visitors! What was it like in those countries? And haha, abacus? Really? XD

haha abacus was for Japan XD

I really liked Finland and Estonia. It was really clean on the streets (in Finland anyway), and the street's not concrete, it's like..... cobblestones? But smooth, with big fat rocks. And they laid different-colored stones for crosswalks and such XD much better than paint on concrete. And there was an H&M in Helsinki! :D

Russia was neat. There was this really old feeling to the city (we stayed in St. Petersburg), and a lot of the buildings were really old, but also really cool. You can't find those kinds of buildings here, or on the west coast at least.

Do you speak Mandarin and Cantonese, or just Mandarin? And omg, the two Asian countries of my dreams. Take lots of pictures and share them with us, yes?

I speak just Cantonese. =]

It's not for sure that we're going to those places yet... we're still trying to figure it out. Hopefully though! I mean, I am taking a semester off to go, so I hope I get to go to places I actually want to go to. xD

Man, I wish my school had an abacus club at my school just so I could go on a Japan trip. Did it cost a lot?

Ooh. Finland's cleanliness reminds me of Singapore's. I've never been there, but I know it's really clean and that they fine people a lot if they litter. Meh, Europe > the US in prettiness. D:

I also want to visit Russia. Was it really cold when you went? xD

Oh, but wasn't it you who corrected my little Mandarin sentences in Henry's birthday topic? Unless you just know a little Mando, like me, haha.

Good luck with your planning. I admire you for "messing up" your academic schedule, so to speak, to travel. I'd be too scared to do that. If anything, I'd just want to study abroad during my junior year of college.

^ Haha, yeah it was me. I only know a bit of Mandarin... can't really speak it to save my life. xD

Thanks! I'd rather travel after I've graduated, but my sister was afraid she wouldn't be able to go on a family trip for a very very long time.... soooo we're kind of working around her schedule. Meh. Fine by me, as long as we go someplace AWESOME!!! And we're only going away for like a few weeks, not an entire semester, because my parents can't afford to miss that much work. I guess I'll be working for the remainder. =(

I have a noticeable Cantonese accent when I try to speak any kind of Mandarin. It doesn't sound like that in my head, but it's totally different when it comes out of my mouth. xD

Ah, I see. Do you know which semester you'll be taking off yet? And don't be so sad about working; money is always good. You can add the earnings to your fund for your post-graduation travels. :]

Oh, I have a horrible accent when I speak Mandarin... actually, I have an horrible accent when I speak Cantonese too. I never noticed it before but my friends recently told me, and now I can't not notice it. =(

I think I might be taking my second year fall semester off. I hope it all works out okay!

My Cantonese sometimes sounds a little Americanized when I use words that aren't that common. Since I hardly hear or use those words, I'm uncertain of how to say them right, and just...I should practice my Cantonese more. I don't need to speak it at home since my mom's proficient in English and my brother's fluent (and his Cantonese is tons worse than mine, but I won't go there), but I wish I could speak Canto better. T_T;

Haha, I was just checking since by "next year," I didn't know if you meant next school year or in 2009.

We don't have an abacus club either XD It was through an outside class. It was about $2000 for two weeks in both Japan and Taiwan. Japan's kind of expensive.

I know, I was reminded of what people told me about Singapore when I went there. And Europe pwns the US in prettiness.

I went during the summer, so it wasn't cold at all. Sunset at 11pm XD

Yeah, I need to save up a lot if I want to visit there. Same goes for London. Someday I'll be rich enough to travel the world. :S

Singapore has no gum on its sidewalks! Not like in the US, where most cities' streets are dotted with blackened gum. v_v

Idk why, but that just reminded me of the aurora borealis (Northern Lights). I really, REALLY want to see those someday. *_*

My list:

Canada
China
Japan (but only technically, for a layover during a US-China flight ;-;)

I'm reasonably well travelled, I guess...

U.S. (technically foreign for me)
Jamaica
Dominican Republic
Costa Rica
Ireland
Spain
France
Belgium
The Netherlands
Italy
Greece
Oh, and I guess Scotland and Wales might count, but not really.

POSSIBLY hitting Turkey at the end of this summer, and HOPEFULLY Australia and Tanzania next year, if I get my ass in gear.

I've only been to Canada once. I could easily drive down 30 minutes and cross the border to Mexico, but it seems scary. ph34r.gif

I need to go to Japan someday.

I've been to Australia, when I was about 3 years old.

Canada, twice, when I was about 5 and again when I was about 11.

Japan two times.

And Italy this year in the Spring.
