to help out a stranger?

I'm not talking about holding doors open I'm talking about legitimately going out of your way to help someone in need when you could just as well ignore the whole spiel completely and continue on through your life without getting judged.

A couple of days ago I was with my dad in his car and as we arrived near an intersection on 19th avenue in SF we heard a bunch of car honks (I hate excessive car honking). By the look of the situation, a lane of backed up cars, we assumed someone had been a little slow in their driving. wrong! we looked ahead and right in the middle of the road was a 60 year oldish woman pushing her car (with her husband in it). it was a pretty weird scene: the two dressed like tourists, and the car was one of those old fashioned things. next thing we knew, random people on sidewalks, in gas stations, at bus stops, came running over to help out the old lady. they quickly helped her push the car to the side of the road and the whole thing was soon over. it was, quite simply put, really interesting.

of course my dad and I just drove by like assholes :)
