Sorry for giving you a headache, but they are not the same. I hate to be all "music geek" here, but it's something that sort of bothers me, LOL. Enharmonically equivalent, yes, but not the same. In the key of Db major, the tonic pitch is most certainly not C#!

A more common example is the key of D major. You don't have D flats, you have C sharps - if the tonic pitch is D, having a D flat would be completely irrational because rather than functioning normally in the scale (as a C sharp would) you would have Db coming right before D. The scale would be D, E, F#, G, A, B, Db, D. That makes absolutely no sense at all. In short, C# is a common occurrence in D major. Db is not, and would only EVER occur in D major if it was an accidental and even then would be very strange to see.

So yes, based on what you HEAR, they are the same. On paper, though, they are VERY different.

^I live in Arkansas. I drove through a big chunk of Missouri and then through Illinois. It flooded on the day before I was driving back, and the highway headed west was closed. Luckily by the time I got there, they had it opened back up but from what I understand there was water going across the highway. 10.5 hours total.

you see, my parents like to stick to highways and such...
we had to take my brother to tennessee, so they decide to drive to st.louis and straight across until we're above the place he is in tennessee, then go south. so we drive him down there (1), drive back (2). friday morning we're driving back there (3), and friday night/saturday morning we're driving back (4).
