thats not a good song to base his greatness on. I used to HATE lil wayne so much i thought none of his stuff made sense but i began to listen recently to his mixtapes and he has some clever analogies and stuff.

people dont understand that u need fillers on your cd's and singles to even make people listen to your cd. If you listen to the not mainstream stuff you will hear good music. Just like listen to the not mainstream kanye stuff you will not hear about the "good life". its all a gimmick, people need to make money you know.

well I mean personal preference also plays a large part in determining what's "good" and what's "bad". I prefer eloquence and poetic lyrics that flow with the music, lines that create images and run smoothly off the tongue; intricate selection and use of words is what I highly value, but not that's not what everyone else likes. Some people prefer witty lines, others analogies or metaphors. Some people can say they're the best rapper alive not by blatantly stating that but by spinning out words that sound aesthetically pleasing, or by displaying a broad range of vocabulary and clever diction.

personally the "I'm like a bomb tick tick" whatever just doesn't do it for me, and that's really just my personal preference in the end.

I just find Lil Wayne's diction and word choice crude and average.

A nonlistner of rap music cannot be so judgmental on whats good or bad if they havent expirienced all of the types of "rap" as it is. Many people call out lil wayne because he says hes the best, but who doesnt say that? Many dont,but alot do. People like mos def and talib for there wordplay and story like rap. I never said weezy is the best,but i hate when people are so quick to call him out when they dont listen to hip hop.

haha I haven't given enough attention to this specific genre to have the authority or right to give that title to anyone just yet. I'm really not familiar enough with this genre to say anything about it, but because I've been exposed to various other artists, I feel as if other artists have a lot more to offer than the current mainstream chart-toppers. I won't say they're the best alive because I find that title too broad and unfair: there are many styles out there and by best "rapper" what does that even constitute as? good lyrics? good rhyming? but I will say that I respect CYNE for their attention to word choice and ability to mention subjects other than their local street corner.

I don't doubt that he has his strengths I just feel, like you but different in that some people are a bit quick to judge that he IS THE BEST. I may have sounded like I hated him right off the bat but I seriously tried giving him a chance;he's just not my guy.

I believe alot of people dont give him a chance.They just listen to his mainstream stuff and everyone knows that mainstream stuff is made to make money. I agree 100%. (Although I like his beats. So maybe not entirely 100%). His lyrics don't cut it for me, either. I think society has succumbed to peer-pressure when it comes to (his) music. We listen to it because it's what's there and "everyone else is listening to it". I think regardless of paying attention to the lyrical content or not, Wayne is still highly listened to because everyone else listens to it. Listeners may or may not take the step back to think "wow, this music sucks" because what's important is feeling included, so to speak. Listeners can answer the question, "HEY HAVE YOU HEARD THAT NEW HIT BY LILWAYNE?!"....blahblahblah.


Plus. He's still ugly. (imo. haha just kidding. that has nothing to do with what i just said. )

I think you brought this up earlier but it's a great point. I mean assuming that Wayne was SERIOUSLY talented with his lesser known/not mainstream raps, why is it that THOSE raps can't be mainstream? Thats why it sells,it may be to simple for some, but for the common person its genius. When you think about how many people that prolly listen to wayne and thier education it would proabably wouldnt be up to par as say nas and immortal technique.
