Ok.. so my sister is 11, and she says she has started her period.
Thing is, she has no pubic hair according to mum, and has only just started getting the whole, breasts getting lumpy and greasy hair (which i thought was the start of puberty right?)
So I dunno what the hell to think, because I was under the impression from all the sex education, lessons from mum, internet etc, that your first period comes after your hormones have finished everything else.. last, and that greasy hair, development of pubic hair, growth spurts, putting on weight, acne, mood swings, discharge, hips changing etc came first?!
Is this normal? Could she be faking and have tricked my whole family? :S

I really want to know because its really made me feel like crap because I am a really late developer, and she has always been better than me in that sense, and when I started my period a few months back I felt so good, because I had finally proved to myself that yes, I am 5 years older than her, and I finally felt grown up. Now I just feel like a kid again because a stupid 11 year old is already over taking me! I dont get it.

It isn't abnormal for an 11 year old to get their period. And don't be jealous, that's just dumb, no offense. :X

I think I have a right to be jealous. That my own sister, who is 5 years younger than me, starts her period at basically the same time? Anyway, its not about me, Im just really curious to know.. because its totally mucked up my understanding of the human body! lol

If its normal, how come she started her period like, straight away without everything else? As I said, isnt your menstrual cycle suppost to come last in puberty? After everything is developed?

Not necessarily. And you don't have to be jealous, people go through puberty at different times. It isn't a race.

Yes, it's normal, and I don't see why she'd fake it.

Puberty is usually more underway before a girl gets her period, but it's not finished until she's 17 or 18, maybe a bit later. A girl doesn't have to go through all the things you said before she can get her period.

Although I understand why, there's no need to feel jealous. Trust me, eventually you'll be glad that you got yours later than your sister. Think about how annoying periods are to deal with, and how many more of them she'll have than you.

Haha, you dont know how much shes rubbed it in my face already! To her, it is a race, and she has to be exactly like me or better.

Haha, you dont know how much shes rubbed it in my face already! Shes pretty darn immature about the matter.

Kids will be kids. I don't think she'll be laughing when she realizes how bad periods can get, but has no friends who can relate since she got hers so early. =/

I got mine at 11 too. And yeah, I don't think she'll be bragging about it for too much longer.

Its normal to have your period before the rest of your hormones. Cuz you growing wont stop til your about 20.

I got my period when I was at a younger age than when my older sister got hers. Trust me. It's not something we brag about.

Lumpy/greasy hair is part of puberty? blink.gif
