Looking like this:
ADD
MSG
BLK
DEL

or all the letters vertical.
Reason for edit: There's no need to quote the OP, especially since it's so long..

You need images if thats the case.

well, not necessarily. you would just have to use line breaks and make each letter a link, like this.

CODE
<a href="link">H</a><br>
<a href="link">o</a><br>
<a href="link">m</a><br>
<a href="link">e</a>

if you wanted them next to each other, you will probably want to use a table.
CODE
<table>
<tr>
<td><a href="link">H</a></td>
<td><a href="link">A</a></td>
<td><a href="link">B</a></td>
<td><a href="link">D</a></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><a href="link">o</a></td>
<td><a href="link">d</a></td>
<td><a href="link">l</a></td>
<td><a href="link">e</a></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><a href="link">m</a></td>
<td><a href="link">d</a></td>
<td><a href="link">c</a></td>
<td><a href="link">l</a></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><a href="link">e</a></td>
<td><a href="link"></a></td>
<td><a href="link">k</a></td>
<td><a href="link"></a></td>
</tr>
</table>

and so on.

ALTHOUGH. your safest bet would be an image map.

No i meant the letters would be on their sides, you would need images for that.

yeah...that's pretty much what i said before, but your version doesn't link every letter individually, whereas mine did, but rather all as one.
put it in a DIV and position it through CSS, which you should know how to do...

CODE
<style>
#name{
margin-top: #px;
margin-left: #px;}
</style>

<div id="name"><a href="link">H<br>o<br>m<br>e</a></div>

now, do you want the vertical links NEXT to each other, or one right under another, like:

H
o
m
e

A
d
d

what do you mean it's not working?

what does/doesn't it do?
you did edit the CSS correctly, right?

it would also help if you gave us a link!

OK, you need to tell me if you want the links like this...

H
o
m
e

A
d
d

or, something like this.

H A
o d
m d
e
and, your link and friendID. also, what links you want and in what order...
THEN i can give you a complete code.

ugh.
i KNOW you want it like that.
if you look, there's a DIFFERENCE.

one looks like this.
H
o
m
e

and another looks like this.
H A
o d
m d
e

but since you're not going to pay attention and answer my specific questions and give us a link, i'll just do the whole thing for you in table form.

wait. you have regular HTML links inside table tags...
i hope this is what you want. if not, actually telling me what you want might help. even though it's pretty much the same code i gave you before.

replace the top:0; with a number until you get what you want, and change 'navigation' if you want.
CODE
<div class="navigation" style="position: absolute; left:0%; top:0px; overflow: auto;">
