After I got my bangs cut a few months ago, my Grandmother said I shouldn't because of this Chinese superstition
![]() She said, you've got 3 lights, one on your forehead, and one on each of your shoulders. They help you see the ghosts, and ghosts fear you for the light. Since I have bangs, she says it's covering one of my flashlights and it isn't good and I'll be attacked by ghosts or something in the future o__o;. What are some strange superstitions you've heard of? |

That's so creepy.
The usual for me - walking under a ladder gives bad luck, walking through a graveyard at night after the gates are barred curses you (0_o), opening umbrellas indoors, touching wood for good luck... |

Odd numbers. Good things happen with odd numbers, not so good with even.
Also, my pen has to match what I'm wearing or I can't relax, for fear that something is wrong. It's nothing major, I just typically use black pens unless I'm wearing blue. If I'm wearing blue I must use a blue pen or something bad will happen. Broken mirors freak me out. I have OCD type behaviors, so I'm not sure how much is supersition and how much is just odd OCD like patterns. (I don't consider myself "OCD" nor have I been diagnosed as such, I just have some things that I'm peculiar about). |

YEAH. THAT FENG SHUI THING, LOL.
Also, my grandma's big about sleeping with mirrors in the room and she says it's bad to have two windows facing each other. Gramma says it means you're losing all your money o.o |

I don't have any superstitions that I observe consciously, but I'm sure there are some things that I do without really thinking.
I'm a big freak over symmetry/balance, though. If I tap one of my fingers on the desk, the other nine fingers must do the same thing. If I'm walking left, right, on the sidewalk and step with my right foot onto the grass, I get all weird because now I'm uneven. When I step back onto the sidewalk, I have to step with my right foot first to even it back out. Unless it's awkward, though, I try to subtly make sure my right foot touches the sidewalk before stepping out onto the grass with my left foot (wtf). I used to be much worse about it, like if one of my arm muscles twitched the other arm would have to do it, too. I convinced myself that it was weird and was able to suppress that need somehow. ..this all sounds so weird now. =x But yeah, it's not a superstition, it's just an eccentricity, I think. |

^I have a lot of OCD-like peculiarities, but I'm not sure I'd diagnose myself with OCD, exactly. xD

Rain comes from God crying at something you did again.
That's what my dad used to tell me. |

My mom has that superstition, too! It must be an asian thing. =P
I also follow such things as not opening umbrella's indoors, walking under ladders, knocking on wood, putting leaves from this tree in the Philippines in my back pocket to ward off spirits, etc. Lots of crazy superstitions from the asian culture, and I was brought up to believe most of them. :| (My mom also practices feng shui, so she gets mad if I put my room out of the order she placed it in. This is bad luck for this, bad luck for that, blah blah) My friend also hangs up grapes above all his doors for the New Year, which is a superstition said to bring money to their household. |

We had something similar to what you did for your grandpa's. Although, instead of wrapping it in white paper, we just let the money drop. And people in their houses threw some at us too, but we weren't allowed to pick it up either, or some curse or whatever would be set upon you.
That also reminded me of when you leave the cemetary after a funeral -- my mom told me we're not supposed to look back no matter what, or else the soul of the corpse (friend or foe) would follow you home and haunt you. Oh, and don't get me started on such ghost stories/superstitions led unto them, such as the White Lady or capree's, etc. Lol. =s |

Especially when playing strip poker. |

So they don't want you to have a "rough" start to your new year. And the leg bouncing habit thing is the same with my family, they say you're just horny, haha when I told my boyfriend that, he does it everytime I'm sitting on him. |

My mom always told me to not step on pillows, because it's a signal you send to the monsters under your bed to come out.
But I think she just said that to scare me and get me to stop stepping on pillows. Not exactly a superstition. |

The only ones I really live by today are to not walk under ladders, breaking mirrors, and opening umbrellas indoors.

when i was younger my mom would jokingly say that if my feet were to ever get "swept" by a broom i'd marry an old man. at first i thought she was just joking about people believeing in that but then one time i accidently brushed the broom against one of my cousin's feet and she totally freaked out and told me that it was bad luck and that it was going to be my fault if she married an ugly old man. 0_o i thought it was funny.

I am a firm believer in not opening umbrellas indoors.
When I was in 5th grade I did it, and the same night, I burned the skin off of my hand with boiling water. |

but chinese looks so cute in bangs
![]() i know that youre not supposed to open an umbrella indoors (not that you need to in the first place) because ghosts hide under them. youre not supposed to gift clocks because it means to wish them death. shoes are not good too. your bed should not be the first thing someone sees when they walk into your room. do not step on a tombstone. youre also not supposed to put out your photos, cuz that's what you do with dead people. and writing people's name in red means they will die soon. |

Don't step on graves, don't walk under a open ladder, etc etc.
That Chinese one is different, never heard of it. |
