This is my final 8th grade research project. It's the outline for my essay on fashion. I forget the final requirements, because I was stupid on Friday and left my whole accordian folder at school. I hope this should be here instead of in writing.. anyway, what am I missing and what should I leave out?
Fashion in Culture Intro: What is Fashion? How did it start? How is it influenced? History: When did Fashion start? What is Haute Couture? Who are notable Fashion Icons? What is a “Supermodel”? When were the big houses created? Influences: What are the main influences on Fashion today? - Music - Celebrities - Daily life How do they contribute to the creations of designers? What are specific designer’s exclusive inspirations? Academia: What are some of the major Design schools? Who are the Alumni? What kinds of courses are offered in Fashion Design? Design Process: Who are some of the most notable Fashion Designers? What is the job description of a Fashion Designer? What are other jobs in the Fashion Industry? What is the system in which clothing is created? Advertising: What are the main forms of Fashion Advertising/Marketing? - Runway Presentations - Commercials (Television) - Photo-shoots o Magazines o Billboards What is a Fashion Model’s job? What are Job Requirements for a Model? Who are the most notable Models of today? Who are the most notable Photographers of today? Where are the Fashion Capitals? What does a stylist do? Buying/Selling: What is a Buyer? What are the main demographics clothing is sold to? What is a Consumer? What is the Fashion Economy system like? Where can you find/what are Haute Couture clothes? Where can you find/what are prêt-a-porter clothes? Where can you find/what are mass-market clothes? Conclusion: How is fashion reflected in everyday & formal lifestyles? What are the specific demographics different clothing is targeted at, and why? How does fashion contribute to Pop Culture? What are the different areas and jobs in design? Why is the industry so extreme? What are the legal issues regarding the industry? How is health concerned? What are the main controversies regarding fashion? Each section is a new paragraph or two; depending on how much info I actually have (I have no idea, I left my notecards at school too.) & I know that Fashion is a really, really broad topic to do, but I don't really want to narrow it any so I'm just planning on not going into too much detail about each section. But I don't know, I mean, plans change. Anyway, Any help at all would be absolutely fan-tas-tic! ![]() |

I know you forgot your final requirements, but do you have any idea how long your essay needs to be? And what kind of style?
If it's relatively short (~500 words), you desperately, desperately need to narrow down your topic. I know you don't want to, but you simply can't sacrifice the quality of your essay because "you didn't feel like it". Although, from reading your outline, it seems like a much longer essay than that. Even for a long essay, though, fashion is a huge, huge topic. I would highly suggest you narrow it down. Fashion of all aspects in one particular era, perhaps? Just on famous designers? Or purely on fashion history throughout the ages? Your essay is going to be JAM-PACKED full of stuff if your whole topic is fashion. You are probably going to only be able to mention a few things about all those topics. It will probably be a very shallow essay. Since this essay is for 8th grade, I'm going to assume that you're writing in a 5 paragraph "hamburger" format. Although it's a research project...hmm. What subject is this for? lol, I'm asking so many questions because you really have to cater your writing to your audience in order for it to be successful. |

I'll get the exact requirements later today, but I think the minimum is 3,000 words or 2,800.. Not sure. It's for Language Arts.. and I know about narrowing the topic. I've been thinking about it a lot.. but it's so hard to choose the one part I'm most interested in or have the most info in. I have it narrowed into four different sections on my notecards, wherever they are. I think it's design process, education, marketing/advertising, and I forget the last one
![]() edit:: The last section of notecards is history, and the word requirement is 2,800 minimum. |
