I'm inclined to say no. They'd be an awfully long fad.

No. People will always want to congregate and talk about things together, and forums are the best way to do that.

hmmm... I don't really use forums for meeting people, if that's the question. I only use forums for information. Such as body building, politics, religion, science etc... as for meetin new people in general, well I don't really care to, to be quite honest.

When I used to write, I'd go to forums to research - mostly medical stuff, though.

I think that forums are a good way to spread information and talk to others about things that interest you.

I like forums because I enjoy discussion... not that the majority of this forum's discussion interests me all that much in particular, but cb's grown on me.

I don't think forums are a fad. It's a simple way to get ideas out there in the open, and who doesn't want to be heard? for the most part.

Exactly, I love forum boards that are specific such as medical information for example.

And that's your problem with this forum. We don't have a set "group" that all of our topics pertain to, so you just run around being an asshole. Lighten up every once in a while.

Lately, I've been spending more time at Reddit, which is a site where people post links to articles they find on the Web. But each article post also has a comment section.

The cool thing about sites like Reddit is that you can vote articles and comments up or down, so you can filter out stuff you don't want. Also, the discussion is highly targeted, since it revolves around an article.

I think the discussion there is superior to that on most forums. I wonder if forums could operate in a similar manner (up/down-voting to filter content, etc.)?

Ditto here, except I'm a slashdotter. I like slashdot's metamoderation system.

Is cB a fad to the oh so mighty Jusun? I think so. The place was better when you paid no mind to it.

i think it's more like.. people have nothing to do, come across a forum, meet new people, and are completely sucked into talking all day.

Eh, not quite talk. More along the lines of "Let's have a slow paced but very interesting and sometimes dramatic conversation." Some forums are very boring, obviously, but only because they lack activity. This place, however, is quite beyond that and a lot of people have really gotten to know each other. You see them yourself cracking inside jokes all the time and yada yah and that's just the way networking rolls.

Do you need psych books?

I bought my psychology book for $70 and turns out I wouldn't really need it, but it helps to have it. ACK. But it's such a pretty book. *basks it the new book smell*

Forums have been around for a long time. Look at the soompi forums before the huge crash in 2005. That forum's been around for a while.

Forums are ways for people to get to know each other and/or help each other. I mean, we all might go to specific forums to discuss certain subjects or to solve problems, but it's not something like myspace or anything. Or well, actually I guess it could be since cB has the whole cB profile going on. But anyways, message boards are not fads. It's not some trend that a bunch pop up and then suddenly all forums die. Forums usually fail if they can't maintain it well enough, I guess. Or members just stop coming altogether.
