how good of a tipper are you? what do you consider a "good" tip? what types of services rendered affect the amount of tip you give? define "good" service.
i think i'm a fair tipper. i never tip more than 20% 'cause i don't believe any service is worth the additional 5 above that. also, there's no such thing as "excellent" service to me --essentially, nothing above "good". my tip rating: 0% for crappy service: basically, doing everything wrong. so far, i haven't had service that would be deserving of this title. 5% for noob service: obviously a new guy. you could tell the person has putforth effort, but s/he's probably just not fit for the job. again, it's rare that i tip this low. 10% for "close-but-no-cigar" service: nothing goes particularly wrong. server is already familiar with the job but is apparently just slow and/or having a bad day. 15% for decent service how i expect to be served every night! fulfillment of all requests in a timely and orderly fashion. server is nice, but not too clingy, maybe even funny, good people skills 20% for good service speedy fulfillment of all requests. giving a little extra. excellent people skills, basically kissing the ground i walk on. just curious because i know people who tip 5% for what i would consider "good service" and others who tip up to 30% for the same. |

I pretty much always tip 15%, because that's what my cellphone can calculate for me, and percentages give me a headache.

Pretty much never under 20%, as a waiter, I hated people who didn't tip. I do understand that sometimes the servce is just bad, but a lot of the time, the problem is in the kitchen, and it's not really the fault of the waiter who has to make do with the situation.

15% by default. So my tips range between 5-15 dollars, always.
And it's 15% not because of their service but because it is the norm at least here in South Florida. If you ever go to a restaurant that automatically takes the tip within the bill... you'll see it's 15%. One place is Cheese Cake Factory, they take 15% by default for tip. |

Usually 15%. I rarely give out more because I have yet to find a place that consistently gives me quality service. Although occasionally I do give more depending on the situation, but those places would give me good service one time, and blah or shitty the next.
I did leave a $2 tip for my $12 meal, but the total bill was $60 for my and my friends. They didn't tip at all, since the waiter was sooo crappy. You can't blame me since I tipped on my part. ![]() |

I don't calculate my tips. I just add a number that looks good to my total - if the bill is $33, I'll bump it up to $40. Typically in a casual restaurant I'll add at least $5 as the tip, sometimes more, depending on the total.
Someone mentioned a barber.. I usually do my own hair unless I want something major done. But every once in a while (at least once a year) I go get my hair trimmed and re-shaped just to make up for the silly things I might have done to it. I feel sorry for her, so I'm usually extremely generous with what I pay my hair stylist, she does quite amazing things. :P |

I get my haircut every week at 15 dollars a clip. I have to tip my barber well, because he has gotten me out of some tough jams.

My haricut is always 10, but I always tip him 5. When its emergency time though, I give him a straight 20.

I don't have an actual % I give, it just depends how I'm feeling that day. So if the bill is like $14 for my share, I'll just put in $20 straight up without no change.
And sometimes I'll do like %60 tip occasionally. Like if my share of the bill was like $30, ill just throw in $50. |

I know that there's a standard, but I refuse to tip more than a couple of dollars if they give terrible service.

I know that there's a standard, but I refuse to tip more than a couple of dollars if they give terrible service. true.. this is very true. I hate when I ask for a refill and I don't get it til nearly the end of my meal (which pisses me off). or when I ask for a specific perk in my meal... like if I asked to add chicken to my meal and they say, "ok, it'll probably be like a 2-3 dollar on top of the meal" and I'm like cool no problem.. only to receive my meal no effin chicken on it >< |

At this hookah bar I usually crash, the waitress told us that we HAD to give her a tip. She had to be the absolute worst waitress of all time. We all just looked at her laughed and left.

I simply take out my phone and just tip what it tells me, regardless if they sucked or not. They should get something after dealing with my crap.

I'm a waitress and I hate when people don't tip. Especially when I haven't done anything wrong. One time someone with a $60 meal left zero tip. I think that even if they are doing a poor job you should at least give 10% or so because majority of the time, they depend on tips. Personally I almost live paycheck to paycheck so if I get shit tips then maybe I can't afford to pay bills or something. I mean people get set wages whether or not they treat you nicely at other places but waitresses/waiters usually depend on tips.
My boyfriend tips pretty high. If they do poorly he still gives at least 15% but if they're really good waitresses/waiters he can sometimes give up to %50. |

I think they get paid like around 2 dollars an hour because most of their money comes from tips and sometimes restaurant include the tips in the bill.

I always give at least 15% since that's what my parents always do & always taught me to do. I only give 20% if it's just that darn good, but if you suck, you'd get one buck & I'm making sure I let the manager know &/or corporate know if it's that serious. I'll never forget when I went off on the asst. manager & waiter at Applebee's at my old college town & my friends & I wrote corporate but my online submission was the one that got them both fired. It was that serious or I wouldn't have bothered.
