How long does it take yall to adapt to a new location? How long does it take you to REALLY know your place? You can say it could be a lifetime for you to really truly understand the aspect of where you live. But just in general terms, it usually takes me about 2 years to actually get the feel of a new city. I been living in Davis for nearly two years now, and I can say I am starting to get use to the place, but there's still some little aspects that I'm still unfamiliar with.

Depends how frequent of a driver I am... All I need to know are all the streets around my area as well as the plazas. Normally takes about a good month or two. |

I'm not really talking about like where the the places are at and where what is at. I mean that's pretty easy. Usually that would take me couple weeks. But I'm talking about like the culture of the city, or the people and the environment as a whole. I'm trying to apply cultural anthropology here, but I can't explain it very well. |

I never did get used to Pittsburgh, after living there for a year. Of course, I hated it and moved to where I am now (have been here since August).
I lived in southern California for most of my life and I could drive to certain places without even thinking about it, really. Here, well, it's better than Pittsburgh, I can already tell. It'll take me a while to feel like it's home though. Home to me, or feeling settled is a long process because I'm a creature of habit. I think probably within the next year or so I should feel completely adapted. It does help that I'm always with my son though. It makes the adaptation process smoother, easier to deal with. |

Oh social environment... well I haven't moved to another state just yet... Floridians are Floridians. The only difference is... you either live in the ghetto, you live in the suburbs, or you live in the high class suburbs. Classism is what makes the difference between regions. Other than that... maybe difference in accent? There's some locations out there that are still ethnically together. Chinese neighborhoods, Black neighborhoods, White neighborhoods, Hispanic etc... |

Athens wasn't enough of a change; I adapted too quickly and have gotten bored already.
I can't really say, because that's the most of a location change I've ever had. It didn't phase me to move from my old house to my current one, because they're three minutes apart. Before that I was really young during my house changes, which was still just around metro Atlanta, so that didn't effect me at all. I could really use a big change. I think I'd adapt well, because I need it. |

Hmm... you know, I've lived in San Diego all my life, but I've moved around a few times. Anyway, yea it takes me about a month, at most. I mean, I walked home from school and rode the school bus, so I knew my way home. I still am a little iffy about directions when it comes to the freeway and around La Jolla, since I don't drive -- I sleep in the car -- and I am only in La Jolla for school.

I've always lived in NYC, and always within the same general vicinity the few times that I've moved, so I can't really say. But it would probably take me a few months to get to know all the ins and outs of a city in the way that you mean, Tung.

Too bad you didn't read what I said to Tama. I didn't mean adapting and knowing the locations of where such places are at in the City. I'm talking about knowing fully you're place and truly having the feeling that, this is my home, and nothing can replace this feeling. So would you say you knew San Diego pretty well after a month and like the annual festivities, or the culture and what kind of people hung out where and the parts of the cities? When this place was going to have an event, or which store sold better items than this store, etc. |

Yea pretty much. Did you not notice that I said I lived in San Diego ALL MY LIFE? Of course I'd know when things are, but I'm not saying i know everything. I know just enough of what actually concerns me. BTW I meant that about where i moved, since I've ONLY MOVED AROUND SAN DIEGO. WTF do you want me to say? Oh yea I lived at my sister's house for like 2 months over the summer, but you know what? Yea it took me a month to adapt to the way people live over there (since she lives in the desert, which is like the boonies), figure out where things are, figure out what people actually CONSIDER as recreational, and what other crap they celebrate. Also, there's a dominant race where she lives, and it's definitely not Asian, but I guess I learned more about their culture when I was over there?
![]() And about the culture of my city? Okay, seriously, what do you mean by that? Are you telling me that I don't go around San Diego enough to know about it? Yea I still consider La Jolla San Diego, but I admit I haven't really adapted to it, since I only go there for college, so I stick around on campus, then get on the freeway and get my fat ass out of there. Anyways, yea I know what kind of people hang around at many places, what kind of people live there, etc. And I know about certain annual festivities held (usually ones held at schools and shit) each year. Yes I understand my "social environment" if that's what you mean. Oh and yes we have a gay community too. Does that give me bonus points, Tung? I know where it is! *raises hand* lmao |

^ Lol. Of course I know you live in SD all your life. And of course because of that, I would expect you to know all of that and know your city pretty darn well. But I was saying, that did you knew all that (what you listed above) just after one month? Or did it took you a couple years to know all that. Because one month is darn short. But if it did truly took you one month, then you are a fast adapter, and I actually admire that and envy you.

Well hm gosh darn, I was only a wee little toddler when I first went to preschool and noticed that there were other children of different skin colors. It was shocking. =X
Well Tung, yea it only took me a month because I moved to places I've been before. I was born in Linda Vista (town inside San Diego), moved to Mira Mesa, then moved to City Heights, then moved to Oak Park, the moved back to City Heights. These are all little towns (or areas, w/e they are) within San Diego. I've been to these places before, even when I was living in Mira Mesa. It wasn't hard for me to adapt to the living conditions (ghetto areas) and the types of people around me. I used to live between two houses with Mexican families, and they'd throw a party every two weeks that went into the middle of the night. Man, those nights I couldn't sleep, and I'd hear gun fires in the the back alley. Could've been a BB gun or something, ![]() |

I adapt pretty quickly. It's probably because my parents moved me all over the place when I was younger, but I usually get the hang of where I live within a few weeks and it takes less than that to start calling my current house/neighborhood/living space "home."

well, where I currently am, it took me about half a year to really get used to it. and till now, I'm still not really comfortable where I am. Maybe it's due to the fact that it's so far out in the boonies. I need my city skylines. D:
