Bad advice, he told you no pretty harshly. You have to make yourself accept it. Don't lie to yourself. There is no hope, move on, I know it's hard. If you try harder, this is where everything gets really awkward, and then you can say bye bye friend or the friendship will never be the same again. Then you will be so sad, you'll cry all day, cut yourself, and eventually die from lose of blood... maybe that's a little extreme...

If you think it's worth it, try again.
but like i said.. if you don't like him again.. then i suggest you find somebody else or just be single for now. Time will only heal what you're feeling right now.. just try not to feel so depressed.
And don't do anything that would ruin the friendship you guys have now.
