QUOTE(fameONE @ Mar 14 2008, 03:25 AM) *
The discussion isn't about how the respective branches of the military work together to achieve a given goal, its a focus on why Marines don't like to be referred to as Soldiers. I was asked a question, and I answered it. For you to pass judgment on the Marine Corps because you don't like my attitude, proves your stupidity. Save your analogies because they're rather weak, and your shaky comparisons bore me.

Instead, maybe you should take a step back and contemplate whether or not you have the intestinal fortitude to do what my brothers and sisters in arms do for a living? From the guy working to fix my pay, to the girl covered in grease from putting the wrench time on a 7-ton, or to 20 year old in a third world country who is cleaning up dead bodies and rebuilding schools after a natural disaster; this profession is demanding. When the orders come down the pipe and you're working 16 hour days, on top of grueling physical training, preparing for a deployment to Iraq, you need a certain level of pride to keep sights set on the target.

You could never do this. You wouldn't survive. Lead, follow or get the f**k out of the way, kid. I have never went into any detail about what I do, or how I truly feel about this lifestyle, and that alone should give you enough grounds to realize that you should have kept your mouth shut. What the hell does patriotism have to do with anything? Where did I throw that in there? You're reaching for the sake of invoking a petty argument because my last post was abrasive and the cockiness just rubbed you the wrong way. So the f**k what?

It is true, when a serviceman dies in the line of fire, tears are shed, he/she is missed and we all mourn. I've lost a couple close friends in Iraq, recently. Both of which were part of other branches. I never respected them any less because of their branch affiliation. Your ignorance misinterprets this and your lack of understanding could easily be fixed by asking a few questions, instead of making assumptions. You're pathetic, and the more I type, the more it makes me sick that we have Forces and Divisions in certain locations to prevent widespread hostility that protect people like you.

How many times have you seen a guerilla jump in front of your up-armored vehicle with C4 taped to his body? How many friends have you lost in combat? When have you had to pick up the remains of a child from a ditch? I've earned my right to have an elitist mindset, and so have the other branches. Ever heard of friendly competition? I'll rag on squids, flyboys and 'sarges' all day, but even though we're fighting toward the same goal, there is always something one branch does better than the other. Marines (Devil Dogs, Warriors, Leathernecks, Killers, etc), we are warfighters, and I never once bragged about this on Createblog because simple minded shits like you would never understand.

If you can't stand behind me, feel free to stand in front of me.

i love that quote in the end brandon. do you mind if i use it? it says it all.
sumiaki: i'm sorry but for you to say that brandon has an elitist mindset is just wrong because here you are telling us to call you "god" and i would never do that because you can never compare yourself to someone who is real. just like brandon who is a "REAL" marine. so get over yourself. and don't sit there and play that whole "ohh i'm being picked on for what i said" because it's not gonna work when you're gonna sit there and say "refer to me as god" you're out of your f*cking mind.

christine is right. it was taken way out of context this whole topic. the point was that marines feel that a "soldier" is an army member and they are completely different in some aspects. just the same as when i was a soldier i would never want to be called a marine because then i'd have to bitch slap yo ass. there has always been a conflict between the two branches but it's been going on for such a long time. but i'm not saying that we won't still be friends because without the marines, the army couldn't be who they are today. all branches work together to get the job done. and if you have a problem with giving the marines their respect of calling them a marine, then you don't even deserve the right to leave a comment on this topic.

Just out of curiosity... why is it offensive to be called a soldier if you're a marine?

Because of their pride in what they stand for... Some Marines understand that they're soldiers regardless. Others some how pretend that they're above the term "soldier" and would much rather be called a Marine. I even called my boy who's in the NAVY still and stationed in Japan and he said he's never seen a Marine or Sailor or what have you, get upset because they were called soldiers. And he's heard their superiors call them soldiers.

So sorry to shit all over your pride Brandon and Pandora.. but aint no Marine gonna do shit if you call them a soldier, unless they're so proud that it blinds their intelligence.

Nice try though =\

I guess the entire III Marine Expeditionary Force is too proud to acknowledge the term 'Soldier.'

EDIT//There's no use in attempting to explain the honor in what I do for a living. It's too "in your face" for people to handle.

According to Urban Dictionary

QUOTE
Marine
536 up, 85 down

The USMC is over 222 years of romping, stomping, hell, death and destruction. The finest fighting machine the world has ever seen. We were born in a bomb crater, our Mother was an M-16, and our Father was the Devil. Each moment that I live is an additional threat upon your life. I am a rough looking, roving soldier of the sea. I am cocky, self-centered, overbearing, and do not know the meaning of fear, for I am fear itself. I am a green amphibious monster, made of blood and guts, who arose from the sea, feasting on anti-Americans throughout the globe. Whenever it may arise, and when my time comes, I will die a glorious death on the battlefield, giving my life for Mom, the Corps, and the American Flag. We stole the eagle from the Air Force, the anchor from the Navy, and the rope from the Army. On the 7th day, while God rested, we over-ran his perimeter and stole the globe, and we've been running the show ever since. We live like soldiers and talk like sailors and slap the Hell out of both of them. Soldier by day, lover by night, drunkard by choice,
MARINE BY GOD!!! OORAH!!!

I thought this one was funny. :K

It's on a individual level... not generally all Marines are the same =\

Answer to your edit..
That's maybe because you don't serve the military? I can give you a few places around the world where you can visit, where the whole population of that area have the attitude of "in your face"... and most likely kill you and turn you into a coffee table or a lamp shade just for being a foreigner.

So you're not all that special thumbsup.gif

I'm sorry Tama but that was completely uncalled for. Excuse me if I'm blowing things out of proportion but for someone who has been in the military himself, you sure have a funny way of supporting those still in. I find myself even offended...

"That's maybe because you don't serve the military? "

What the hell is that supposed to mean? I'm not in the military so I have no idea what the f**k people who are go through, but I have a boyfriend going to Iraq in a couple months and you're gonna throw THAT shit in his face? Maybe I'm reading you wrong. If I am, feel free to correct me.

Uh... I'm starting to see a pattern in which some of the females here take things completely the wrong way and blow everything out of proportion.
I'm confused; fameONE's your boyfriend or uh... the other dood (brain fart on his name)

now you used the term "females". so what are you implying? i have a hubby who's in iraq right now and i've served so something like this is serious to me if you were referring to me as well.

I'm closing this.

-Soldier is a blanket term
-per the dictionary, it applies to all servicemen
-Marines like to be called Marines

Fin.
