My point was the fact that people who say Marines aren't soldiers on the basis that they don't like being called soldiers; not because they aren't soldiers. I will call them whatever I want to call them as long as it proves true. Hence I will call them soldiers if I want, despite them not liking it. We're a military organization that isn't needed because the Army could make a few expansisions and be the only branch that the U.S. military has. We train in relatively poor conditions with out of date equipment, but the general training we receive, regardless of MOS, is in preparation for even the worst warfighting conditions.

From day one of Marine Recruit training, I was groomed to be an aggressive, cocky, quick-thinking leader who could get in the shit and get my hands dirty. Combat isn't feared, it's accepted. Many of us look forward to it because that's how we're trained. Our entire way of life is less pampered and just a bit more rugged than any other branch, and to associate us with anyone else is insulting.

The discussion isn't about how the respective branches of the military work together to achieve a given goal, its a focus on why Marines don't like to be referred to as Soldiers. I was asked a question, and I answered it. For you to pass judgment on the Marine Corps because you don't like my attitude, proves your stupidity. Save your analogies because they're rather weak, and your shaky comparisons bore me.

Instead, maybe you should take a step back and contemplate whether or not you have the intestinal fortitude to do what my brothers and sisters in arms do for a living? From the guy working to fix my pay, to the girl covered in grease from putting the wrench time on a 7-ton, or to 20 year old in a third world country who is cleaning up dead bodies and rebuilding schools after a natural disaster; this profession is demanding. When the orders come down the pipe and you're working 16 hour days, on top of grueling physical training, preparing for a deployment to Iraq, you need a certain level of pride to keep sights set on the target.

Second of all, it's not elitism. It's rivalry, which has been there for a long ass time between the armed forces. Rivalry is NEEDED in ANY company or organization, not just within the armed forces. It's what drives improvement.

This thread is pretty much useless now because we already answered that Marines are Soldiers by definition. And as acting GOD I declare the winner to those who have said Marines are indeed Soldiers.
